Happens every day in the private sector and I don’t see the outrage then.

You know the saying: those who can - do, those who can't - teach.

It's the same thing with jobs. If you have value, industry could use you. If you don't, you probably can't find a job after getting laid off from the federal government.

Exactly this and I'll add why should he have a guaranteed lifetime job doing it?

Your friend was stealing money from the taxpayers by having some fake job where he studied why the corn kernels are square shaped. Stop stealing from your own people

If he's an engineer then won't have any issue getting another job. Heck if he still wants to work for the government there are plenty of contractor jobs, and the demand for contractors will only go up if there are mass firings.

Our finances as a nation are insolvent. When a business is on the verge of bankruptcy they tend to restructure and cut expenses including labor.

This is a necessary restructuring of our federal workforce and govt expenditures. I hate it for your friend, but if he is a valuable skilled employee he will find employment elsewhere

You know what’s ironic? He’s a veteran and he voted for Trump

A huge percentage of the federal workforce is made up of veterans. And a lot of them vote red

I dont think there is a lot of cheering for individuals losing their jobs, but there's a general vibe that federal workers are immune to layoffs because once government makes a position its rarely ever evaluated if it is necessary or not. Us private sector folks go through thay routinely.

And those positions are funded out of my paycheck and 90% of my tax funds dont benefit me in any way.

Truly sorry for your friend, but welcome to the real world.

People generally believe what is being fed to them from their chosen news source. If it’s a click bait podcast or YouTube channel, those federal workers may be vampire baby eating devil worshippers.

Trump doing mass layoffs the federal workforce has destroyed people’s lives.

Why should the federal workforce be immune from layoffs unlike the private workforce?

Starbucks just laid off 900 corporate staff, should their jobs be guaranteed when profits/budgets aren't meeting target

Is he not still a civil engineer? I’m sure he can find a job at either a state agency or engineering firm. I'm sure the Navy Civil Engineering Corps (CEC) will take him if he's not too old.

Then he should have no problem finding a private sector job, he just has to work for less than a few thousand Jeets
