You’re the unquestioning useful person who Kimmel & his writers were talking to.
No. I’m a person that places a lot of weight on free speech. The market didn’t like what he spoke so he got canned. The Kirk comment was the lynchpin for something that was probably coming anyway.
I’m supportive of anyone’s right to say things and I believe the market will check you if you go outside of the general taste. His ratings sucked. Most of that is because he used his microphone to try to be funny about Trump and others that differed from his political stances. It got old. Fans left. He got canned.
Kimmel believed he could say whatever he wanted and it’d be okay. But it wasn’t.
When asked if he wanted to apologize to get his job back, he said no. I have no problem with that. I actually have some respect for the fact that he’s standing his ground even though his comment was stupid but that’s Kimmel. He lives in a liberal bubble.
Bottom line- the market did what it should have done. Again, His ratings sucked and that’s the real reason he got canned.

free speech
Then you go on & on about the market…
Can’t be both.

What is your position on Free Speech?
Posted on 9/19/25 at 3:06 pm to SouthEasternKaiju
Yes it can
You can say what you want and I can choose to like or dislike.
If enough people dislike- you get canned.
That is what happened to Kimmel.
He is a late night talk show host. He is not to be taken seriously despite his desire to be taken seriously.

From the folks who cancelled Gina Carano for "Beep, Bop, Boop".
Removed Rosanne Barr from her OWN frickING SHOW, which unlike Jimmy Kimmel, was #1.
Kimmel lied, that's what's different.

I’m all for it.

Well then you have to support Kimmels right to say things you disagree with.
Here’s the thing-
There’s levels of free speech. the content that the FCC monitors, is supposed to be content intended to be in the public’s best interest. But an entertainment broadcast over FCC monitored airways ought not be held to the same standard as a news organization imo.
While the FCC didn’t officially shut Kimmel down, They got involved. I think they shouldn’t have even entered the fray. I guess they could have shut Kimmel down but that seems like a real dangerous precedent imo. The FCC chair’s public comments on it were unnecessary imo.
As far as I’m concerned, The line gets drawn when the speech is supposed to be truth with the intent to inform the public. Unless it’s labeled as “Editorial content”, The official news organizations are supposed to deliver truthful news with rigorous standards of truth. Delivering false news is doing a disservice to the public. It’s possibly harmful to the public. I recall Iraqi news during the gulf war delivering false news to Iraqi’s. They purposefully misled their people about the advances that the US was making. Imagine if WWL purposefully misled the public about the projected direction of Katrina. The concensus called for the storm to come into SE Louisiana but they purposefully reported that it would go elsewhere. Maybe they had a tracking software that they wanted to promote and purposefully delivered ONLY their model predictions and people believed it and got killed or harmed because they sat home instead of evacuating…. The FCC would have to come in slap them down. The information is not for entertainment but supposed to be factual and in the public’s best interest but wasn’t and caused public harm.
A comedian on a nightly show isn’t held to that standard imo. Anyone relying on them for honest information is an idiot. The FCC shouldn’t get heavy handed on that.
So it’s all about context.
A comedian saying stuff on a late night entertainment show is not to be taken seriously as their intent is not to deliver news important to the public’s safety. It’s entertainment. No one should be harmed from watching it.

So, TLDR, “clown nose on, clown nose off”?

He used his show to propagate lies about Tyler Robinson not being a lefty. Most left media outlets have tried to spread that Robinson is a right wing or at the very least not affiliated with any left wing ideology. Continuing that lie while able to reach an audience in the guise of comedy or entertainment is dubious at best because he presented the lie as fact and then presented a joke about a lie that again was presented as fact. During his career he was about as one sided as any show could be. He never presented any view but the lefty slant. He was political more than entertaining and all of the above contributed to his low ratings and eventual removal.

It’s a reference to Jon Stewart trying to have his cake and eat it too with regards to political content.

When was this announced? Last I saw there were pictures of the studio set and his offices being moved out.

Maybe.
Sounds like Sinclair has some significant conditions before they broadcast his show. I'd imagine Nexstar will do the same.
