When you own the microphone and the national attention span is about 10 seconds, you can repeat any lie you want and have a pretty decent chance of it being forever considered "the truth".

Habitual liars always have to cover 1 lie with another and always forget what the original lie was. So they will always clarify the new lie with, "What I meant to say was, or, what I really meant was, or, Maybe you will understand it better if I explain it to you this way"
