Did the Dossier lead to an investigation?

I need some help. I haven’t kept up with “muh Russians” that much. Anyway, so a pink haired guy is arguing with a woman on my FB about the dossier. This is what pink hair said:
“Trumps Russia connection dates back to the spring of 2016 when a number of his campaign operatatives were caught in intelligent service surveillance of Russian monsters and oligarchs. The FBI has been investigating this since at least last summer.
I’m sure you recall the outrage regarding the Clinton Comey Memo a week before election while saying nothing about the specious things they were finding out about the Trump campaign.
This dossier did NOT trigger any investigation. The special council was named because of Trumps firing of Comey for not pledging loyalty to help him make this go away. This dossier is just ONE piece of evidence being reviewed as part of his investigation. No one knew about this until Dec or Jan of this year. You make it sound as if Hillary/DNC handed it to the authorities to get this ball rolling.
Now, what here facts did I get wrong?”

What she posted is possible. But apparently Congress persons are going to try to find out if the dossier was in any way used as reason for the FISA warrant. No real clear information on this, and I doubt we ever find out.
But a lot of strange things have happened, and given who is POTUS, I'd personally stay tuned. And stay woke.

The dossier was circulated during the summer of 2016 by John McCain. The DNC paid for it as well. The Dossier is a fabricated story and none of it is true, but was used by Obama Admin and Comey to begin investigation after the election. It was the basis of an intelligence survelliance of American Citizens.

False. There's never been any evidence I've seen that Trump's people were talking to Russian "mobsters." The only surveillance data they have released was that of Russians talking to other Russians about Trump. Furthermore, you can bet your arse if there was some bombshell conversation Trump's people had with Russia that it would have been leaked a long time ago. The fact it hasn't been leaked proves there's nothing there.

This guy is confusing two investigations. The FBI has been investigating Trump long before Mueller was appointed. And all the evidence I've seen points to the dossier being the catalyst to get it rolling.
Moreover, we now know that MI6 and GCHQ in Britain were the agencies that first started spying on Trump's campaign. They passed info along to John Brennan (in person) and even Brennan thought it was a big, fat nothingburger. It wasn't until it was clear Hillary might be in a real fight that they made a big deal out of it.

False. The press had the dossier for MONTHS before Buzzfeed released it. Buzzfeed wasn't the only one who was sitting on it, but were the only ones who would publish (an obviously fake) document. ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, NYT all had the dossier for MONTHS, but none of them published it because they couldn't corroborate a single piece of it.
TL;DR -- Red-haired SJW doesn't know what he's talking about.

The Dossier was the result of a PAID FOR,prejudiced investigation,intended to find believable dirt.

But Then, the information gets passed on to a supposed impartial government agency at the direction of a certain political party,that happens to be in executive power,leaked to media,and get's citizens bugged and tapped.

Yeah, you don't know that. There was the CNN article that said it was used in the FISA court but no one said it was the main piece of evidence. Hell, no one has reported what parts of the dossier the court considered or even if the court found it credible.
