Obama came out of nowhere supported by a faction of the DNC that was tired of the Clintons. This faction brought one very important innovation - the small donor. This revolutionized fundraising and was easily corrupted. Obama didnt need the DNC Donor Class as much as an Establishment candidate
Obama then hijacked the DNC and ruptured it. The Old Guard were too firmly entrenched to be affected and Obama was smart to embrace the radicals and outliers in the Party. This acceptance of the radicals alienated the center left traditional Dems.
Obama demanded loyalty and those that didnt obey were pushed out. This created a void of Dem future stars and has them in a state of panic now. Their Gen X generation that is so powerful in the RNC doesnt exist in the DNC. It is pretty much 51yr/old Josh Shapiro and a whole bunch of nothing after him. Their Gen Z are a bunch of loud radical idiots.
This is why the Pelosi/Schumer crowd are still around, no one has emerged to push them out.

Makes a good deal of sense...I can think of one more reason he swept in and got a ton of votes that he came by without spending much money...I just can't put my finger on it though....

Ironically Trump has done the same thing to the RNC but he is a pretty moderate guy and far more inclusive so the RNC has actually expanded since he took it over

My uncle was a 3 term District Attorney of a 3 parish area in South Louisiana.
He went to meet Clinton several times at MSY and BTR on visits to LA and other functions throughout the 90s.
He was a lifelong Democrat until Obama was nominated by the Democrats in 2008 stating: 'he doesn't identify with this national party anymore'.
