Look, it pissed me off in a big way when Obama audaciously attributed objectionable actions of his Grandmother as those of a typical white person. It was offensive. If I was Black, I'd find attributions such as "blacks believe in white privilege" or "blacks want reparations for slavery," similarly offensive.

I hate this fricking phrase. I busted my arse in life to get where I am. I paid my own way in college, failed a bit, had to pay more, and even worked multiple jobs WHILE in college. I get my degree, and I get a job with the state. Everything is going fine until my car breaks down, to which I have to work 70 hours a week between the two jobs just to pay for a used car.
My story isn't some unique tale or anything like that, and I know for a fact a lot of my fellow employees did the same thing and they are black. Color doesn't define me, and I don't agree with people that let it define them. I have ended many friendships because they either don't like white people/asian people/black people.

History has some factor but a very small factor:
1. It is the AA community that accepts that is ok for almost 75% of AA babies to be born out of wedlock
2. It is the AA community that does not stress education like the white and asian community
3. It is the AA community that accepts thuggish and gang behavior as part of their culture
Those are 3 reason that have way more impact than a history of slavery 150 years ago or segregation 50+ years ago.

My life is an argument against that. I was a National Merit Scholar with very high ACT, SAT and GPA. I couldn't get into Harvard.
There is no such thing as a black version of me who did not get a full ride to an Ivy League College. The difference? I had white skin.
And, if you say "Well, Zach, if you were born black you probably would have been in poverty."
I was born into extreme poverty.

Race is a social construct with very little actual meaning. Ethnicity is also socially constructed but defines groups using more objective standards. As an ethnicity, Indian Americans and Asian Americans are far more homogenous than African Americans.

Being white statistically increases your odds of going to college in the first place. Additionally, being born black inherently decreases the odds that you end up in a school district that provides the education necessary for you to become an elite student.
In other words, the odds of you being a national merit scholar with great test scores would have been much lower had you been born into the black community.
You are missing the forest for the trees, analyzing an entire population from an individual perspective.

Poverty is one of many factors. Culture, instilled in all of us by our elders, plays arguably an even bigger role. The legal system also plays a significant role.
For instance, a black male arrested prior to age 18 has less than a 5% chance of ever graduating college. A white male in the same scenario has almost a 50% chance.

you see the "white privilege" argument has become a way to criticize this sort of behavior as being privileged
literally things like having 2 parents, having them give a frick about your education, having a work ethic, etc are "white privilege", just as they're seen as "being white" in the majority of urban-black communities
what it really is, is an attempt to excuse the pathologies of culture of those in poverty
it also is a way to decrease individual achievements, which is a pillar of modern liberals/progressives/democrats
