It's one thing to decide you're not comfortable selling guns like you used to but this dude doesn't seem to have an articulated plan for what his plan-B is to fill the void.

Even worse when you consider that Dick's only opened the first Field & Stream store in 2013. In the 5 years since, they've opened 35 total. So they were all-in on the hunting market, then before they can even open all 35 stores they take a high profile anti-2A position that pissed off the primary customer base for that type of store. Has to be one of the dumbest CEO's in history.

Oh well, Academy always had better prices and bigger selection than Dick's anyway.

You almost feel like Academy hired Stack for Dick's.

Considering his family owns a controlling stake you might want to think that through.

And they knew this move would have negative financial implications. They chose to take a position. You may disagree with that position, but this wasn’t unforeseen.

Still probably going to result in a shareholder lawsuit provided they don’t buy everyone out to take the company private again.

Dick's opened a store about 1/2 mile from my local Academy. Went there a few times when it was brand new or if Academy didn't have what I was looking for in-stock. But not anymore.

This is progressivism in a nutshell. We have to ruin ourselves in order to champion the cause.

I'm normally not much of a boycott kind of guy but I haven't been in a Dick's since he started all of this crap. I'll drive down the street to Academy.

Maybe they are going to arrange camping scheduling for the National Parks.

In this guy's case it just worked in reverse. His "feelings" affected the economics of the company. His arse ought to be rode out of town on a rail.

Dick’s is toast. I’ll be shocked if they aren’t bankrupt in five years.

Given that Bass Pro Shops now owns Cabela's, and that Gander Mountain closed up completely, wouldn't Field & Stream (stores) be facing headwinds already? Why make it worse with a firearms policy that runs counter to the customer base?

Like ESPN has been doing with all their SJW comments. The millennials haven't come around to watching them -- and their core sports-watching base is finding other alternatives.

Sometimes feelings is a good business move, aka Nike doubling down on the urban youth demographic.

Blatantly pissing on your customer base to virtue signal is retarded, which is exactly what this idiot did

We will see on the Nike move. My cousin and her husband work for Nike out in Portland. He's in strategy and knew about the Kaepernick move 9 months before it happened. It really helped them in direct online sales and on the coasts. Short term it was a genius move. Mainly because online sales are actually huge for Nike, but long term and in the middle of the country they still aren't sure. They took a huge hit on some retail orders, and according to my cousin they expect them to return but it's still not a guarantee.

It's really not that common for a company that has built a core brand to abandon that brand and then successfully move into a niche that ANOTHER brand already has successfully addressed.

ESPECIALLY if the original brand was actually considered anti-antithetical to the new brand.

VERY uncommon.
