If Mississippi is like Texas a student is assigned an ID type name/number in the public education system to keep up with the “permanent” records. It follows the student from campus to campus or school district to school district. Unless there had been some formal legal change the school was probably just following the official name as put into the school system 12-13 years ago in kindergarten. As that is the name of the student that the high school can officially says has met whatever the state requirements are.
Hell, when I graduated many years ago we had a kid who went by the name “Booger”. At graduation his official name was read as he went across the stage.

I was there in 2010/11. OS was a nice place with nice houses and stuff but D’Iberville was growing pretty fast and was getting the new shops and everything. It was the place to go out for dinner or shopping
