At least one poll shows 13 per cent of Americans don't think enough is being done about illegals.

The issue is those two things aren't happening exclusively and voters are reacting because they do not like targeting non-criminals and being iffy on due process

Again, source?

Again, he flip flopped and didn't give full policy details.

That created a malleable concept for voters.

Clearly, this version isn't what they had in their heads during the campaign.

Lets see what the press secretary has to say about this.

This would be a big disappointment.

Look at the polling data on the issues relating to how they're handling these immigration policies and with latino voters, generally.

Recent Latino data

quote:

Sixty-one percent of Latinos said Trump's policies have made economic conditions worse, with nearly half saying they have struggled to pay for food, housing or medical expenses in the past year.

The Pew report also mentioned that 65% of Latinos disapprove of the Trump administration's immigration policies. Nearly half said the administration's deportation activities make them feel less safe, while 12% said they feel more safe, the report said.

More than half of Latinos surveyed said they have serious concerns about their place in the U.S., up from 48% in 2019. For the first time in nearly two decades of Pew Research Center Hispanic Surveys, most Latinos said their situation has worsened in the past year.

Ignoring everything else. You aren't going to win in 2026 or 2028 without the Latino support Trump had in 2024.

It’s exactly what I had in mind. The idea that people are gonna flip flop their votes because some Mexicans get deported is retarded. Nobody really cares outside of white women who like to whine on social media. And they weren’t gonna vote republican anyways.

Not saying that is what is happening here, but this sentence to me always feels like one of two things:

1. The media trying to steer the admin by creating the narrative.

Or

2. The admin putting this out to gauge response and see if popular/unpopular before making the decision to shift strategy or not.

I guess it’s a good thing the numbers you posted are pretty much in line with Trumps Latino support in ‘24.

Also, Trump isn’t running again anyways.

So you believe our borders should be 99% open?

Of course not. His preference in deportation methods doesn’t imply anything about his opinion on a secure border.

I’m talking about violent and economic criminals. Once that is accomplished, shift to the rest who are here illegally. Simply choosing a location that immigrants frequent, then going there and rounding up people has never been a good look.

Of course you are 100% correct. It’s not a question of whether this would be ideal; it’s a question of whether this is possible - it is not. Any party that keeps up this chaos of raids and deportations will be crushed in the polls so badly that all of the good they have done will be erased. This is what I posted on this board a year ago and got denounced and downvoted but has now been proved empirically.

Trump should now pivot to a strategy of law enforcement war against the crime gangs, deportations of anyone illegal caught in traffic stops, etc, and tough border protection.

Governing by what "looks good" is a big part of this countries downfall. This should have been a whole effort approach from the start. Focus on rounding up violent criminals and drug dealers, and also round up the illegals hanging out at Home Depot and car washes.

You previously used the term "serious crimes" as the litmus test for whether an illegal alien should be deported or not.

I consider illegal entry a serious crime.

If this happens, I’m done with Trump

Immigration was the last thing the administration was excelling with

Weak immigration enforcement
Weak economy with trillions still being added to debt
Nobody being arrested and held accountable for Epstein, Russiagate, etc and the very few who were charged the DOJ botched it so bad that nothing will happen
More wars and foreign intervention
More money to Ukraine and Israel

Might as well vote D and just let the country collapse sooner than later and get the pain over with. Maybe then people will finally see the light and take up necessary violence to fix this mess. We aren’t voting our way out of it with the spineless feckless GOP

The reported change in immigration enforcement comes as support for President Donald Trump's mass deportation policies has tanked in the polls.

Surprise, surprise.
