Yes, he was a dissenter, but as the VP he has been the public face of it at times. Even though he dissented behind the scenes, the day after the midterms, when the 2028 presidential campaign starts, JD will have to own the war and be able to articulate a way of getting us out. And he may very well have to stake out a position that contradicts Trump if he ever wants to be president. Then, how does Trump react?
He will get the Kamala question at some point..."what would you have done differently than Trump?" And he better answer it a helluva lot better than she did.

I am grateful for Trump as POTUS and did support him in the last primary election, but would have been just as happy w DeSantis
I actually supported Rubio in the ‘16 primaries and could enthusiastically support him at the top of the ‘28 ticket (I’ve been very impressed with him as SoS)
But right now, Ron is my 1st choice; we’ll see how things shake out

Let me help you out, my guy. This post was not a referendum on DeSantis as being worthy of the job. I used the word “practical” for a reason. It seems to me that the GOP does not want him in charge, regardless of his proven leadership skills. Given that, and the likelihood that JD is the chosen successor, what do we do with DeSantis. How can we best use his abilities? Please don’t be the touchy RonBot.
My personal preferences would be, Rubio, DeSantis and then JD.

The other reason was a petty vote to cancel out a lady I saw at a concert at our ski resort. She was wearing a vote for Kamala tee shite and I said oh hell naw.

He will likely not be potus because he is a horrible campaigner. He finished third in his own party.

Marco Rubio finished 4th in 2016. Reagan finished distantly twice. Trump ran in 2000 and then had an exploratory committee in 2012 where he was polling so poorly he dropped it.
Things change.
That being said, if Desantis DOES want to ever have a chance he should take a page out of other people's books and not run this time, and see what the future looks like in a Cabinet or in the Senate

I'll vote for DeSantis in the primary and then take whatever I get. My first choice never wins the R primary. The nominee is almost always my second or third choice but still infinitely preferable to any Democrat.

Why? It was then or never. The Biden-Harris administration was very unpopular and he knew that Trump would be a lameduck and it would be very difficult for a Republican to win the White House in 2028. He knew that if he got the nomination, he'd be a 2 term President.
