Gov. Ron DeSantis vowed on Wednesday to create a fully-staffed statewide law-enforcement office whose sole job would be to crack down on election crimes despite previously praising Florida’s smooth 2020 elections and rebuffing calls by members of his own party for an audit,

DeSantis, who is running for reelection and is considered a potential 2024 presidential contender, is also pressing state lawmakers to increase the criminal penalty for violating new restrictions on collecting mail-in ballots. He also wants to enact new deadlines on when local election officials must scrub their voter rolls for people who had died or moved.

“I guarantee you this: The first person that gets caught, no one is going to want to do it again after that,” said DeSantis at a West Palm Beach event billed as a “press conference” but featured dozens of DeSantis supporters who loudly applauded the governor. At one point, the crowd cheered “Let’s go Brandon” — a conservative rallying cry against President Joe Biden.

The governor also said he wants the GOP-controlled Legislature to put additional restrictions on the use of drop boxes.

“I don’t even think we should have drop boxes,” said DeSantis even though he signed the bill two years ago that first authorized their use in the state.

Under the governor’s proposal, Florida would create an “Office of Election Crimes and Security” that would have 25 sworn law-enforcement agents as well as other investigators to probe voter fraud and other election law violations. LINK

Would he support it if this office were run by a democrat?

I kinda doubt it.

Are you suggesting there will never be a Dem Gov in Florida?

As long as they weren't ignorant, politicized f*cking hacks, LIKE YOU, who actually enforced the law rather than substitute their own political agenda, then I'm sure he wouldn't care.

In fact, I'd bet good money that many employees will be Dims.

Don't go all hubris just because of a good night.

That's what the Democrats did and look where it got them.

Sounds like a good idea initially...

But every law enforcement agency can be corrupted. All it takes is a few Miami condos here and there, a few "donations", a few high class hookers and a few nice cars, and the agency leaders belong to the other team.

I never said I lived in Florida, I just refuse to align myself with any firm movement or party, though the French Conservatives seem to be getting interesting.

Why doesn't every state already have this?

I'm hesitant on this. Mostly because I don't trust agencies like this and how they can be corrupted later on. Wish there was more focus on local police in each precinct doing these investigations.

I meant what I wrote.

Beware of creating offices only to have them exist if they find or do something.

It's like making a "Vice President for civil rights and diversity" position at a company. Then all sorts of innocuous slights are found to be grotesque violations of law because if they are not the VP will lose their job because they will have nothing to do.

This office will be politicized by both parties unless they have co-leaders, A Dem and GOP at the same time.

Good for the poll watchers in enforcing the rules. Isn't not enforcing the rules very correctly what everyone always complains about on this board regarding elections? Well, now you got it.

That’s what you ran away from. Idiocy.
