Derek Chauvin's legal team requests new trial, alleging jury misconduct

The legal team for former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who was convicted of murdering George Floyd last month, has filed a motion in a Minneapolis court requesting a new trial on multiple grounds, including jury misconduct.
In the filing, Chauvin’s attorney says the former officer should have a new trial in the “interests of justice; abuse of discretion that deprived the Defendant of a fair trial; prosecutorial and jury misconduct; errors of law at trial; and a verdict that is contrary to law.”

"The jury committed misconduct, felt threatened or intimidated, felt race-based pressure during the proceedings, and/or failed to adhere to instructions during deliberations, in violation of Mr. Chauvin’s constitutional rights to due process and a fair trial," attorney Eric Nelson writes in the filing.
Nelson also claims that the court failed to sequester the jury during the trial, which resulted to their exposure “to prejudicial publicity regarding the trial during the proceedings, as well as jury intimidation and potential fear of retribution among jurors.”
Chauvin was found guilty April 20 of second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in the death of George Floyd.

the very sad thing is: if the entire thing is thrown out and Chauvin gets minimal or no jail time.
The DOJ is just waiting with charges. Which is WRONG of course but they will get away with it.

What's the saying...it was a modern day lynching.
We had a show trial with people outside threatening to riot if they did not get what they wanted.
Regardless of whether or not you think Chauvin was guilty, it's hard to imagine anyone thinking that's how our legal system ought to work.

We all know how this story ends. The narrative has already been written. Chauvin is to be the state of Minnesota's sacrifice on the altar of social justice.

I think Chauvin should be found guilty on all charges, but the fact that the sitting president of the United States publicly encouraged the jury to find a desired outcome on national TV is dumbfounding. The value of judicial independence aside, it’s just begging for exactly this type of legal challenge.

They also better ask for a new trial based on the fact that the judge obviously erred (better put - COMPLETELY F*CKED UP) in not granting a change in venue and sequestered jury that anyone with an IQ above single digits could see was WRONG after the last complete f*cking joke of a "trial."
