Concerned about water rights or access?

I didn’t ask for it. I don’t game, have a smart house or vehicle, make memes or videos. If that’s the case re gas plants, then why the posting every time a data center goes up? They aren’t new. And we don’t need them popping up in all available land. And no need to be ugly. I can dislike it and you can support it. I feel bad for the OP.

I’m sorry about coming across negatively. I still disagree that you didn’t ask for gas plants and are now asking for data centers. You asked for more gas plants when your electricity use went up. You are asking for more data centers whenever you use the internet, and particularly if you are using AI.
I object to your assertion that they are “popping up on all available land”. That is crazy apocalyptical talk of the sort that characterizes discussions of data centers. Here is a chart of major land users:
Here is a link that shows that data centers will consume another 40,000 acres of land WORLDWIDEI
Data centers are a tiny fraction of land use. This is a tempest in a teapot.

No one should be supporting these things considering what they'll be used for.

The access to my property is a numbered county road; county maintained.
If you have a numbered county road that gives access to your land, then the company buying the neighbors land will not be able to cut you off from your land. The road might be moved but they will not be able to deny you access.

Just keep the 200 feet bordering the data center in heavy forest so you can’t see it. You won’t be able to hear it.
You can smell and hear and see the bright light from them even farther away that and the toxic fumes they produce travel for many miles.

This is just fricking a stupid statement to make
Get out your freaking house and off the internet

Buddy, I have been through many data centers and never smelled anything. What makes these toxic fumes? Nothing. There is none. And data center lights are just like any other lights.

Build a travel trailer park for the construction workers, you're investment will pay back 50 times over at least.

You can't smell diesel fumes?
re emissions:
quote:
it's going to evaporate from cooling towers as steam.
Back to the environment.
Key Concerns Regarding Cooling Tower Emissions:Drift (Contaminant Drift): While the vapor is pure, small liquid water droplets known as "drift" can be carried out of the tower by airflow. This drift can contain concentrated dissolved solids, scale inhibitors, biocide treatment chemicals, and heavy metals.
Legionella Bacteria: The warm, moist environment of cooling towers is a known breeding ground for Legionella bacteria. Proper maintenance and chemical treatment are required to prevent the release of these bacteria into the air.
Chemical Treatment Agents: To prevent scaling and corrosion, operators use chemical treatments, including biocides (like bromine (highly toxic)or chlorine dioxide) and inhibitors, which are concentrated in the remaining water and potentially released via drift.
Discharge (Blowdown): Roughly 20–30% of the water used is not evaporated but discharged as "blowdown," which is high in concentrated contaminants and can pose a risk to local water treatment facilities.
..................
He said these emissions are different than greenhouse gas emissions; diesel generators emit an air pollutant called PM2.5.
“Those are fine particles with a diameter of 2.5 micrometers, or even less,” he said.
“So those particles can penetrate into people’s lungs and create a lot of immediate health outcomes, like asthma, heart attack and even premature death.”
Dr. Ren said this pollutant has immediate health effects because of how easily it can enter your lungs and bloodstream. Evidence suggests there is no safe level of PM2.5.
Noise pollution: the constant hum emitted by data centers can have very real health impacts.
“The acute and longitudinal physiological effects of industrial noise pollution are well-documented to include hearing loss, elevated stress hormones like cortisol, hypertension and insomnia,”

Well, a lot of people say differently, for both fumes and light, but include sound as well. Lots of people do not find them to be benign to the environment or their personal space.

Diesel fumes? You mean from the backup generators that almost never run?
If you are near a data center in Houston, for example, you might get a lot of diesel engines running, but that’s not for the data center. That’s from the power company paying the data center to run their backup diesels to help cover a demand spike. Blame the power company for that.

Okay, but you know who else uses cooling towers? Hospitals, schools, commercial buildings. Everyone in a metropolitan area has cooling towers all around them.
Data centers are environmentally very benign, except for power usage and, if you are in a water-scarce area, water usage. All of that other crap about noise, light pollution, toxic fumes, etc is just hysteria.

Make sure he gives you easement to your property in the paperwork. I had a chance on some property but I would have had to allow easement to property on the backside. I said thanks but no thanks.

AI Overview
While cooling towers in hospitals, schools, and commercial buildings primarily manage human comfort and ambient air, data centers use massive, continuous cooling to prevent server failure. Unlike standard HVAC, data centers generate extreme heat densities and have zero tolerance for downtime.

You didn’t need to go to AI; I could have told you that. You listed some toxic problems with data centers cooling towers. The same “problems” exist with commercial cooling towers regardless of differences in “heat densities” and “tolerance for downtime”.
The environmental issues with cooling towers begins and ends with water usage. Those other issues are just maintenance issues and very minor emissions.

Ok, thank you. I’d just never seen so much about them as now. Appreciate your comments.

I don’t have one immediately near me so I really don’t know about their impact. I have seen some writings about the Chinese funding propaganda campaigns to maintain an AI advantage. That’s believable
