It's actually to fund the Rube Goldberg machine which is the small town. You need o pay for the police officers and the judges and the mayor and the pretty new town hall.

It's probably a factor. But I don't think it's the main reason. I know you aren't a fan of the police but some actually are trying to solve the crimes you hear about everydah

That shouldn't get brought up blacks killing blacks is of course dumb on their part and should be condemned but what we are talking about in this situation has nothing to do with black on black crime but instead a badly trained police officer who appeared too trigger happy and made a mistake if you cannot handle the pressure and responsibilities of being an officer choose a safer career for yourself like accounting idk why so many on this board want to constantly blame the victim in this situation

But just as a hypothetical. Let's say black and white crime rates are equal and police are motivated by generating revenue...

Why would they concentrate their time in poor areas of the city? Or pulling over black people?

That would insinuate a massive nationwide conspiracy to target poor black people to generate revenue. Is that true?

Eh. They're mostly fine. I just find them unintentionally funny and predictable. I used to get pulled over more when I drove my 2000 Honda with 260,000 miles and I worked in the city. My black friend will put me on speaker when he gets pulled over in the city. It's good stuff.

Yea I agree they aren't the brightest. But you can't expect much more considering their salary and the risks they take.

I just don't think society can reasonably expect these incidents to not happen given the levels of violence in this country. If we had crime rates like Japan and this many police shootings I would agree wholeheartedly

On one hand, I think that the cop should be convicted of manslaughter in the very least.

On the other hand, the jury came to their conclusion, so it is what it is.

Head down, don't question the stop or don't question unreasonable searches of your car or don't question if the cop is asking you to do something ridiculous.

No, not really. There's a time and place to fight this shite in our country.

The minute you go to the cops for help, they start investigating you, run your ID, search for warrants, look for parking tickets.

Unfortunately you are correct.

My mother and father are very close friends with two long-time cops--one here in town and the other in Las Vegas. They come and visit often and practice shooting with them at their place.

Well, the one here in town told them that they are told to go out and get those tickets!!!

Swear to you know who.... I asked twice to make sure I heard it right when they told me. No mistake. They are encouraged and they MUST write a certain amount of tickets. Got to get dat $$$$ flow. Hilarious.

Now the cop from Las Vegas is as cool as any guy I've ever met. This guy is an old school cop who retired in the last few years after spending 30 years on the LVPD. He is as anti-establishment as any dude you will ever lay eyes on. He said that the new breed of cops being trained is totally different in every way than the ones retiring and older. I'll let you figure out what he means by that. I don't need to explain.

Like I said, I know good and bad cops. A friend of mine is a cop here in town for the state troopers office and he refuses to write a ticket unless it is absolutely necessary. He has actually been reprimanded for not writing enough . His brother is also a cop in the city department of _______ and he is totally opposite: like a doppelganger or something. He is almost itching to write a ticket or arrest someone. Totally diametrically opposed to one another in terms of philosophy as cops. Oh the stories they have shared.

Why are you so hung up on MUH RIGHTS? What does searching a car have to do with anything?

You can't tell from that video that he reached for the gun
Technically, you're correct.

But what do you do with the fact that Castile literally tells the officers he is going to reach for the gun after the officer told him not to?

.When you tell an officer, or anyone with a gun for that matters, that you are going to pull it out after they tell you not to, it's definitely a possibility.

Doesn't change the facts. The facts are he was told not to reach for his weapon. He reached for the weapon. That is clearly seen and probably why the officer was acquitted.

What does hat have to do with the officer saying "don't pull it out" and Castile clearly hearing the officer because he replied, "I'm a have to pull it out" ???

No. Obviously I shoot everyone who says they have a gun and subsequently moves. It's just safer for me and mine.

Ridiculous posts get ridiculous responses.

Your response is ridiculous because you chose to say he "subsequently moves" while intentionally leaving out the fact that he says he's pulling his gun out.

Now, I wonder why you chose to do that?

When this originally happened I was like that's messed up, thought there finally was an example of a truly bad cop shooting in the national news. After seeing the video and learning that the guy was high as a kite, driving around with a child in the back seat and a gun, and then not following the cops repeated clear commands to not reach for the gun, I have changed my opinion on the matter. The cop was in the right and Philando Castile was terminally stupid. I would have voted to acquit.

Dunno. Probably 20 or 30 times in my life someone has told me they're carrying. I have shot zero of them. Perhaps I should get a medal.

How many of those 20 or 30 times did you tell the person not to pull out the gun, and they replied stating they had to pull it out and actually made a move toward the gun to follow through with their statement?

So he was likely reaching for his wallet
Or, he was likely reaching of the gun since, ya know, he told the officer he was going to have to pull it out.
