This is only my assumption, but my suspicion is that the black kid took it as racist that a white kid was telling him where he could not sit.
I know how track meets operate, the different schools have an area they claim as their "home base". It's very common for members of other schools to mix and mingle in other teams areas because they usually know each other. It seems there must have been some other beef happening if it's true he was told he could not sit there. That is certainly not reason to have a knife at the ready and then actually use it
Unfathomable to understand why a track participant would be walking around the meet with a freaking knife. No, that is not a "good kid".
