And in my opinion, that is what the fedgov should be for. However, the whores in DC have stolen our tax dollars for their own bloated desires.

I don't think anyone here disagrees.

Just saw on the news this morning the federal government believes US labor shortage concerns have been alleviated thanks to the illegitimate regime's open border policing and the 15 million illegals who took advantage of those open border policies.

Crop farmers make a killing but dairy farmers are the real ones getting the shaft.

Farmers don’t set the prices, the market does. (Supply and demand) And you can’t just sit on your crop and wait for the market to get to your liking. It’s not physically possible

Nope, the book I'm reading says it is not supply and demand. Farmers are not the culprits. The customers are not the culprits. It's the producers who buy the farmer's product and sells it to the customer. They have become monopolies. Every product is controlled by 3 or 4 giant companies that collude on price. They avoid anti-trust charges by never discussing it. When company A raises prices then companies B and C match it so that no one is undercutting anyone. They all make more money.

These are the farmers that are hurting. The small landowners and the farmers that lease their land. The big guys keep getting bigger and pushing the small guys out.
It makes it really difficult to get started and grow the business.
Not far in the future, most of the land will be owned by hedge funds and farmed by corporate entities.

I know farmers give themselves a bad name. I know that very well.

Not all of us are idiots though.

I live in a paid for house that was built in 1962. Just to answer someone else

everyone will have to feel the pain!

good thing for me, i have 1.5 years of food reserves for the family!

I don’t want to seem like a heartless person, but im tired of subsidizing everyone!

i’ve been a small business owner and come from a family of small business owners.

Nobody should be so dependent on the Fed Gov!!!

They have never helped me!

I didnt even qualify for the Covid Bailouts, and then i see people I know with insurance companies cashing in on my tax money bailing their assses out to the tune of vacation homes!

frick this system, iI’l provide my own food if needed, Don’t cry to me pal

Then a bill specifically addressing the Department of Ag budget should be generated and voted on and not stashed in a 1500 page CR that no one can possibly read in the allotted time.

What do you do with your prop payments and other subsidies? Grew up on a farm so I can appreciate where you are coming from. Back then farmers drove trucks and equipment until you couldn’t. Then bought used when and where they could.

Many farmers now are driving new trucks every year and running new equipment.

Well then stop doing it. Simple solution.

Not all of us are like that

As someone who grew up on a farm, has family that still farms, and lives in a farm town I am qualified to call bullshite! The only farmers not living like doctors and lawyers are the ones who have gone broke and lost their house.

quote:

Without some help from uncle Sam we will be out.

1. Farmers should stop living above their means. Farmers can live in a normal sized house just as comfortably as they can live in a McMansion. Farmers' wive can drive a five year old SUV with cloth seats and get themselves and the family to where they need to be the same as if they were in a brand new Denali. Farmer's can drive the $50,000 version of the F250 and get your job done just as well as they can in the $90,000 version.

2. Stop complaining about the help that you do get. Just 3 days I went to lunch with some of my friends friends that are farmers. One of them had just came back from the FSA or USDA office (I never keep those agencies straight) complaining because he was told one of the ways that Trump and Musk were proposing to continue to help the farmers but also make the government more efficient was to change some programs from grants that they didn't have to pay back to long term very low interest loans (20 years at 2.5% is the figure he stated). They were as mad as a stepped on rattlesnake that the government could even think that farmers should be required to pay the government back. Doctors, lawyers, etc have to pay back their student loans and do not even get the benefit of writing the majority of the costs off as a business expense even though we could not do our jobs if we had not incurred that expense.

A farmer can’t purchase farmland and make it cash flow, so who does that leave to buy it? Unless it’s for hunting purposes, it’s going to be funds who are looking at “parking” their money on something that won’t depreciate and possible have just a 2% return.

This is true, however it’s legit right now. My son-in-law is in severe financial crisis and he’s a keep his old shite running farmer not a rich boy farmer. 3,000 acres cotton and peanuts.

There are several important things to keep in mind when reading my position(s) on farmers.

1. All farmers are welfare queens/kings. I do not mean that as an insult because I am simply stating facts. IMO anyone who receives more money than what they paid into the government is a welfare queen/king. That includes doctors (like myself), lawyers, CPAs, etc. I strongly oppose the federal government forgiving student loans but I would gladly let the government forgive my student loan debt if they offered even though I have the means to make my payments and pay it off in a reasonable fashion. I am a hypocrite and a welfare king and I do not try to deny it.

2. The reason that I hate on farmers for being welfare queens/kings and hypocrites is because for the most part they try to pretend they are not. Also farmers most part farmers think they are the only industry where the government f**ks with how much they are paid for a product or service. The entire healthcare industry is subject to the whims of the federal government. Sorry farmers but the government owes us because they meddled with the market argument is not going to fly. Same thing applies to the small business owners. Do you think the owner of the hair salon does not suffer as a result of electricity prices rising approximately 30% under Biden? Yes they can pass the price onto their customers but that also causes them to lose customers. My hair cutting lady raised her prices and as a result I now get a hair cut every 3 months instead of every 2 months.

3. From my experience, small farmers (< 2000 acres or so) live reasonably within their means. I even know some that finance their own farming operation and do not have to f**k with a crop loan. However, when farmers get big (> 2000 - 2500 acres) they go crazy with their lifestyle. I believe they go crazy with their lifestyle because they lose track of what money means. After all what is spending an $5,000 more on a beach vacation so each kid gets their own room in the condo instead of sharing when you're already borrowing $1,000,000 or more for a crop loan. $5000 is not much and it probably won't affect the farmer's ability to pay his or her bills, but the mindset that gave rise to it usually does not limit itself to vacations. It spreads to other aspects of life and next thing the farmer knows he is living way above his means.

4. If you're one of the farmers who is "doing it right" by living within your means and busting your arse every day and praying every night to just to break even, make a little money, or in the worst case not lose the shirt off your back you can ignore my criticisms of farmers because they do not apply to you.
