For real, thats the first thing that came to mind as I was reading this. Frickin bootlicker welcoming in the surveillance state with open arms. "Those that give up freedom for safety deserve neither freedom nor safety"

If your loved one was shot and killed accidentally by LEO over a bogus flock camera claim, would you want law enforcement to have this tool at their disposal?
That's a ridiculous comparison.
I'll bet for every innocent person who is accidentally shot and killed by LEO over a bogus flock camera claim there are thousands of innocent people who are victims of criminals who would get away with their crimes if it wasn't for flock cameras.
Flock cameras are great!!!

The vehicle was wanted for questioning in connection with a MURDER.
How does one question a vehicle?
Before you start blustering, think about what I just asked you. Think about how an investigation is supposed to be carried out and what it is that the cops are actually looking for.
And besides, the vehicle they stopped was the wrong one, at least according to the article.
quote:
I don’t care if guns were drawn.
Then you are a moron who never needs to get within 50 yards of a gun.
quote:
If a vehicle connected to a homicide is located
Only it wasn't. It was the wrong car.
quote:
That’s officers taking a potentially dangerous situation seriously and protecting themselves and the public.
No, that's officers causing danger to innocent citizens because they are incompetent and overly aggressive. Neither of those is a good thing, but when you combine them it's much worse than either by itself.
quote:
These cameras can help law enforcement locate vehicles connected to murders, carjackings, armed robberies, kidnappings, human trafficking, stolen vehicles, and other serious crimes.
You wouldn't know it by this incident, would you?
quote:
If a camera helps identify and locate a vehicle connected to a violent crime, I want law enforcement to have that tool.If a Flock camera helps get a murderer, carjacker, trafficker, or other violent criminal off the street, I’m all for it.
That's because you mistakenly believe that the biggest threats you face are criminals. Not even close. A police state government putting the public under constant surveillance is far more dangerous and invasive. You can avoid and defend yourself against criminals. You go to prison if you do that with law enforcement.
quote:
But don’t pretend that locating a vehicle connected to a murder is somehow the problem.
If that was what happened, you'd still be wrong, but you wouldn't be an absolute moron for saying it.
As it is, you completely don't get that it DIDN'T locate a vehicle connected to a murder.
All it did was create a potentially fatal situation for innocent citizens. Twice.

So getting rid of them or not having them isn't going to save you from human cops fricking up.
That's true, but it will give human cops more opportunities to frick up and more confidence that they "have their man" when they actually don't.
This incident being case in point.
"We got a report from a witness saying that the vehicle that fled the scene was a grey or silver early 2000s SUV with tinted windows." No license plate, no unique identifying information. But they see one (of tens of thousands on the road) that matches that description on a Flock camera and the entire fleet is deployed with guns drawn.
That's what I see the likely outcome of all of this to be.

I ask this simple question? If your loved one was murdered, kidnapped, being sex trafficked, would you want law enforcement to have this tool at their disposal? Yes or no?
That's a s simple as people who argue for capital punishment by asking, "If your wife or daughter were raped and killed, wouldn't you want the guy who did it to be killed also?"
Of course I would.
But I also don't believe my feelings should be the basis for setting public policy. Or yours, or anyone else's.
What I would want is not relevant.

How about you answer my question...are you really this fricking stupid in real life?
Cops fricked up, cops need to be held accountable.
Maybe you need to have an irate neighbor or ex who's in law enforcement stalk you. Maybe you need to have cops frick up and pull guns on you. And maybe that leads to a cop fricking up and putting a bullet in you because they thought you had a gun.

That is the most moronic statement I have ever read.

Maybe you need to have your car stolen by someone who doesn't care that you worked your butt off for years to be able to buy it.

Tim Burchett goes off on Flock cameras, and the Knox County mayor (within Burchett's constituency) has also asked the county commission to ban their use in Knox county. The Knox County Sheriff's department had planned on installing 270 flock cameras.

I'm for putting all violent criminal offenders behind bars.
On the other hand prisons can be expensive and not everyone wants to live next to one. A large portion of people don't believe that prisons should exist.
What are politicians to do ?
Well they might think the solution is that we need prisons but public sentiment is against building them or expanding existing ones. Also no one wants to pay more taxes for them. But the public wants criminals put away.
Politicians may think we will just put everyone in prison without them knowing . How? We will use unlimited surveillance methods. The entire country will be a prison , without bars, fences , or guards. We will know when people leave their homes, where they go, who they see, what they buy or sell, what they do at work, and when they get home. How? We will just put these cameras everywhere.
Who watches the Watchers ?

First I've heard of that.
You got a link?
Now remember, you said a "large portion of people," not a couple of fringe lunatics.

I would not want my countrymen perpetually surveilled and our country turned into a police state for the chance that it could possibly be used to find a loved one, no.
But I have integrity.
