Pretty straight forward, really.
We started a war with Iran that nobody wanted except Israel and very online RW weirdos.
Iran is now retaliating by putting pressure on us by trying to close the SOH. The SOH is the thing that was open before the war started and happens to be a massive economic chokepoint.
Somehow our brilliant military leaders didn’t see coming. Maybe Hegseth can do some more jumping jacks on tv and that’ll help.

Some professor at the University of Chicago says the US is cooked over there. We can't defend against that many drones and ballistic missiles.

Rogue actors causing externalities for the private parties/companies from their country is part of the calculation of doing business and not a violation of their sovereignty.
