are we talking about drug possession? because...yes? the argument that we should make future convictions of an irrational, punitive "crime" worse is asinine and in LA, lots of the people in jail are sitting there b/c they can't bond out b/c our state is a welfare system and the sheriffs need that state-funded prisoner per diem to fund their departments

We don't have enough prisons to put every law breaker away if we went strictly by the book. Not even close.

Yes. It concerns the animal rights debate. I was heavily influenced by the writings of Peter Singer as well as IRL discussions with very bright grad students who were friends of mine.

Upper level mammals are sentient beings. I can think of a dozen specific emotions that my lab displays.

I believe that eating meat is OK because humans were designed to eat meat (that's why we evolved with incisor teeth). But I am opposed to killing animals for fun (big game trophies) and using animals for medical testing. It would be much more valuable to medicine to test on prisoners since they are more like us.

I am not sure what is considered to be a "liberal" view these days. If it means in its popular sense the "progressive" / "Marxist" / Socialism Lite is the way to posterity horseshite, I have not a one liberal view.

If it is meant in the classic sense, I think most of my views are liberal. And most of the so-called conservatives on the PoliTalk Board are actually liberal.

Live and Let live. Just don't ask me to pay for your bad decisions.

No, it's about the government not being able to tell people how to go about their daily lives. That used to be a conservative value. Now they just say they hate the government while constantly growing it and funding it.

Yes , I favor legalizing pot , I don't give a crap about abortion, and I REALLY don't care about gay marriage

Also, I'm pro minimum wage increase, and on one particular issue I'm far left. A universal basic income. Now I say I"m FAR left on that issue, because I believe it should replace all existing welfare and every adult in America should make at least $2K a month. So it's a modified universal basic income in that some folks make that and or more already and thus do not need any money from the government.

Of course , I'm not a liberal, so I don't live in the sky and realize that barring an amendment to the COTUS within 5 years the liberals would be screaming that we also need the old welfare system back, so short of that Amendment I would not support any law that did this.

I believe gays should be allowed to be married,

that has now been forced on the people by way of law. living together was not enough obviously doing as they pleased? LAst i checked they were not about to be strung up like in IRAN or SA. then we saw the cake BS now the trans BS. what next? marry a dog? toddy marries rex? LOL slippery slope. same with drugs. I am all ears about legalizing cannabis. no position one way or the other. but hard drugs? again slippery slope. i will bet many here spouting off are single with no kids. I do believe in letting people do what they want as long as it is not forced upon us and is not a ideological threat or breaking laws. gay marriage is now a law so f it. LOL. does not mean i agree with it. i feel the same way about these stupid blue laws. One time in atlanta i could not buy a beer at a braves game on sunday until 12:30! stupid.

Well I am pro-gay marriage and anti-death penalty so I suspect those count. Although neither is definitively liberal.

I think I'm more for the death penalty than against. Now I may have issues with who is sentenced to death and how. I think only cases where the evidence is pretty much 100% "they did it" should be on death row. Murder, rape, and sexually abusing children where the evidence is 100% such as video or the like.

When a person assuredly committed those crimes, I put zero value on their lives and don't see the need to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars for them to sit in prison for the rest of their lives.

Socially liberal. Don’t give a shite what you do, as long as you’re not hurting anyone, or asking me to subsidize it. Drugs should be legal, even if we haven’t wasted billions of dollars on the war on drugs, incarcerating untold numbers of folks that haven’t hurt anyone, costing taxpayers tens of thousands per year per inmate for some bullshite.

I swing libertarian on some things.

To me the question becomes where is the line between what the government has the right to dictate to the people, and what the people should be able to decide for themselves.

To me government is meant to maintain law and order and defend against foreign invaders. I’m fine with more taxes if there is significant tangible benefit to the country.

The whole marriage, prostitution, drugs, etc is a gray area

I don't boycott like fringy people do. And maybe they make a damn fine cake. Everybody is a little fricked up. Just act normal to each other. What if it's the only bakery in town? I don't want to have to drive 40 miles for a cake.

It is all ridiculous.

Why?

Drugs - Tired of seeing people I went to school with die. Weed is fine, legal opiates should all be made illegal. Xanax should be illegal. Throw it all into the ocean.

Prostitution and gays - I don't want that shite on display and I think it would be better if they just stayed somewhere else. Personally, I think we should go back to the way things were when states could choose their own laws. And I would definitely be moving to the state that doesn't have any of this. Gays are disgusting. Prostitutes are disgusting. I live right next to Austin Highway and it is the cities safe haven for prostitutes. I would drive them all out of the city if I could get away with it.

I'm tired of "conservatives" being libertarians. Be a libertarian. I was one for years. Leave conservatism to people who have values... Values other than "do whatever you want bro". There is more to life than doing whatever we want bro.

If this value is your life, then fine, but I REALLY don't want to hear any libertarians complaining about the moral decaying of society...
