A weekend conversation got me thinking.
I really think that our drug laws are unfairly enforced by race. This is the real problem that BLM should be screaming about because the facts back them up. Police aren't shooting unarmed black teenagers 10x a day like some people want to believe, but there are black fathers in jail for less possession than you'd probably find in the average suburban home.
The conversation centered around a local suburban PTA mom that basically was supplying her kids and their friends with alcohol and marijuana. All the kids knew it and she loved being the 'party mom." She was arrested down on 30A for these shenanigans, and all the parents of these kids were required to come get them, but she ended up getting a slap on the wrist and is back at it, at least locally.

Sure. I'm fairly socially liberal. Don't really care what you do as long as you're not hurting anyone or forcing people to do something against their will with the use of force.
example: All for gays getting married, but no one should be forced to bake their wedding cake.

The sentence disparity isn't so much between black and white, but between men and women. Reverse the sexes in the "PTA mom" scenario and you're looking at jail time for a man guilty of being the "party dad." BTW, down vote for not providing photo of said PTA mom.

I'm pro-choice, pro-gay marriage and think drugs should be legal. Also an agnostic but grew up in a church.

I'm against the death penalty (although not sure thats truly a liberal/conservative issue)

Watch some of these live cop shows. How many times do we see someone being detained for pot and drugs but when a background check is called in by the cop the vast majority of those being detained have a rap sheet as long as your arm and it's not just blacks either.

You’ll find out the more conversations you have with people with different views on things, the more sense it makes to move closer to the middle as there are smart and rational people on both sides with good points. Both sides focus so much on presenting the fringe of the sides as the majority that they miss out on these important conversations. Problem is most people on here and DU are surrounded with like minded people so they never get to have good debates, they just want their own ideas bounced back at them.
So to answer your question, I think most here actually would have more centrist or even left leaning thoughts if they debated with someone who actually made them think outside the box. Same with people on the left.

I think drugs should be legalized, as well as prostitution - just tax the hell out of it like they do everything else. Freedom means having the latitude to frick up your life if you insist. Other than the infidelity issue as it may intersect with prostitution, it's a victimless crime.
I'm pro-choice, but since the abortion issue doesn't come up in the Constitution, it should be a decision left for each state to decide.
