You willing to sacrifice American soldiers for that? Because that’s what it will take.

And who’s going to gain anything out of this hypothetical conflict? Not you, me, or the poor bastards sent to die, but the billionaires whose kids will most certainly never set foot over there.

Oh there is something to gain for sure.

But we don't need to have an occupying force indefinitely.

I like how we are at least honest about why we’re fighting wars now.

It’s an admirable step from the bush years of “WMDs”

The real reason they want US presence is they defaulted on their belt and road loans. “DRC took 53 loans worth US$2.4 billion from China between 2000 and 2018, mostly to fund power, transport and mining projects”

If no one steps in, china will take ownership.

And this would be bad for us. China gaining hold of Africa's natural resources is not good for the USA.

If the US is going to deploy troops to face harm in order to secure minerals, then I would support giving every military personnel deployed a share in the profits significant enough to warrant them risking for lives over money, not an enemy threatening the US, and double it if the person is injured, and quadruple it if killed in action or dying from an injury or disease incurred by being in the Congo.

A significant portion going to the soldiers, rest should go to fund US job training/education and infrastructure. I could live with that.

We could start up our own foreign legion.

Heaven knows we have a bunch of them here already.

Why do we have to send ground troops. Seems like we could wreck shite with drone, cruise missiles, and some air support.

Just talk about peace, the UN and helping. Ask the UN to be a participant as well to stop the killing and tend the most needy.

This is a result of hard-nosed honest policies and negotiations, period.

Biden, Obama, Clinton, would have never gotten this offer.....unless it was lined with cash for the taker.

TRUMP is the best thing this country has ever experienced politically!

The PT has discussed this scenario for years. For two decades Africa lobbied both sides for aid, and overwhelmingly chose the Chinese funding terms.

In a humorous twist, when those countries began defaulting they assumed China would forgive the loans and treat the losses like developmental aid similar to the US. Instead, China started liening property.

In a mind blowing development, the Biden administration started negotiating the administration of new loans that allowed African countries to pay off their Chinese liens. Yet the US loans didn’t require any security, and allowed them to be converted to grants in the future.

If I had to guess, the Trump admin will not be any more favorable to those countries than Xi’s.
