Seems there just aren't enough moonbats watching anymore.

Comcast to spin off MSNBC, CNBC, entertainment channels as streaming dents cable: sources

quote:

Comcast is moving forward with plans to spin off its NBCUniversal cable television networks including MSNBC and CNBC, sources say, shedding a once core part of the business that has been a casualty of the streaming video revolution.

The company last month told investors it was evaluating hiving off its cable networks into a separate company owned by Comcast’s shareholders.

“We think there could be an opportunity to play some offense,” said Comcast President Michael Cavanagh said during the company’s third-quarter investor call.

In normal speak, this means what, exactly?

Removing both entirely from their programming? And when will this happen? Tomorrow? By the end of the month? January 1st? 6 months?

Although CNBC pundits are left leaning, it's nothing remotely approaching Maddow & Co. Getting Siamese Twined to MSNBC in a spinoff must leave the CNBC'ers a little queasy. Bloomberg buying CNBC would make more sense assuming he could peel it away from the Massive shite Nothing But Crap network.

Looks like separating the troubled pieces to stage for a sale.

I'm guessing it will take months.

Or a way to limit their exposure or hide the disaster that cable channels have become thanks to streaming.

I was looking at something where even cable tv providers are ditching their traditional cable tv lineups to go internet only but still provide some TV services as a streaming service through a 3rd party.

CNBC isn't the problem... Joe is able to slap Andrew around pretty consistently and everyone else remains focused on the financials as they should.

MSNBC is the problem for them. Terrible ratings due to the bullshite they spew and not enough wackos out there to keep them afloat.

They are taking the pieces that are losing money and separating from the rest of the company. It’s to try and help the stock price and sell off to someone else as well.

Makes you wonder how Cramer feels about being tossed into the same bucket as Joe, Mika, and Madnow.

This has nothing to do with pollitics (BTW - MSNBC MAKES money, and lots of it - how could it not, a couple of studios and talking heads and lots and lots of ads. It's like talk radio with a screen).

It's this -

LINK

Comcast (CMCSA) said Thursday that it has started exploring spinning off its cable networks into a separate company. The development comes as the media industry undergoes massive disruption, with more consumers cutting the cord.

He added, "I think the idea of playing some offense when you combine the balance sheet strength that we have, the assets we have, and the management team we have, there may be some smart things to do, and we want to study that."

According to Comcast, the possible spin-off would create "a new, well-capitalized company owned by our shareholders." To note, it would only include its cable properties: Bravo, CNBC, MSNBC, Syfy, and USA Network. It would not include its NBC broadcast network or streaming platform Peacock.

Ross Benes, principal analyst at eMarketer, said a spin-off would make sense for the company, which has been hyper-focused on strengthening its broadband capabilities, along with its streaming business. "Spinning cable networks into their own company will make it easier for Comcast to cleave off its TV properties and sell them," Benes wrote in reaction to the news. "Comcast profits are driven by its internet service provider (ISP) side. Other [multichannel video programming distributors] have pulled back their TV ambitions, and it would make sense for Comcast to do the same."

"Dividing the TV networks from the rest of the company will allow Comcast to more clearly show growth in its ISP business," the analyst added. "A write down on the TV networks would not be surprising."

Cramer is one of the few CNBC'ers who'd fit right in with them.

I wonder if it is sold to a 3rd party how would the collaboration between NBC, CNBC, and MSNBC continue. It would be hard for the cable networks to stand out alone without support from NBC and vice versa among the 3 networks.

Some of its programs depend on NBC for onair analysts and share reporters for certain events and coverage. Also, the ties to the NBC name could hinder a sale to a third party if they make the buyers remove NBC name and branding unless a licensing agreement is reached.

That's the real reason for all the pharma ads. It's to keep Pravda in business, not to make customers aware of their product.
