One thing that you can gaurantee is the government will try to grow and regulate everything. If removing this regulation ends up being the wrong move it would shock me if someone in government didn’t try to reinstitute it.

Yep, it's shooting oneself in the foot simply because they feel the other side is against it.
This really encapsulates American politics right now, both sides. Rather than due diligence all you have to do is see what the other guy likes/dislikes, much easier.

So no to a free market then?
Of course TV is a free market. There are no regulations forcing cable companies to sign up and provide specific channels.

The contracts will have requirements like one channel has to be offered in the same package as 3 other channels from the same media company.
Cable companies are allowing subscribers to choose a package that excludes all ESPN channels and their customers pay a lower monthly price for that package.
I can buy HBO channels or not buy HBO channels. That's an individual package of channels. Same for Cinemax and Showtime. I can also pay extra to get additional sports channels like the Big 10 Network.
But that's not the same as not allowing individual channels to be purchased a la carte. Maybe we're referring to two different things.

Wait, is this for real?
Dude was in a thread saying he works in the industry but has not posted even basic knowledge of how shite works.
He just throws out George Sorros and other anti NN buzzwords
At least Cential understands how shite works and you can have an intelligent debate about this.

We can trust Comcast at their word. Relax people.

At least Comcast has to treat their customers well enough that they don't cancel and go elsewhere. I don't have that luxury with my representatives. Even if I vote against them, that may not do anything at all.

$50 that Comcast puts services like Vue and Sling TV in their fast lane package to force people to ditch them and go back to regular cable tv.

And yet, I have to pay for channels I dont use or no cable? weird

There is incentive for Comcast to do right by the consumers because of competition.
If only that were the case. In most markets the consumers are left with only one realistic option.

I have always seen this end game. These companies will get paid one way or another. I don’t know if Net Neutrality really prevents it either.
I am fine with rolling net neutrality back since I know I can count on government to reinstitute itself power if something goes wrong.

quote:No, you don't. You can cut the cord and just watch the networks you want to watch from the internet. And killing NN will allow more of that type of service to be implemented.
And yet, I have to pay for channels
If that's not good enough for you, read a book.
You don't always need government to tell you what to do. Well, maybe YOU do, but I don't.

Internet in America is pretty expensive already compared to other countries offering the same speeds.
Most people would still be happy with an $80 internet bill, no prioritizing traffic and no data cap.

I know we got caught trying to frick all of you before, but we promise we won't do it again. Especially with zero oversight!

Net Neutrality: Why it's So Important
Nine minute youtube video
Includes examples of internet companies blocking or throttling websites or services like VOIP and comcast slowing netflix.
https://www.battleforthenet.com/
What is net neutrality? Why does it matter?
Net neutrality is the principle that Internet providers like Comcast & Verizon should not control what we see and do online. In 2015, startups, Internet freedom groups, and 3.7 million commenters won strong net neutrality rules from the US Federal Communication Commission (FCC). The rules prohibit Internet providers from blocking, throttling, and paid prioritization—"fast lanes" for sites that pay, and slow lanes for everyone else.

In most markets the consumers are left with only one realistic option.
According to the 2010 census, 97% of U.S. households had two OR MORE ISPs servicing them.
And that was 7 years ago.
I provided a link to that information in one of these "ONOZ, NN is being canceled!" threads last week.

Comparing Cox internet to Hughenet is laughable
