Nah there's plenty of us hockey watchers here in Nashville at the very least. Predators have become a staple of Nashville life these past 30 years. Live NHL hockey is so much fun to attend, especially playoff games.
But ya there's only like 2 sheets of ice in the entire Nashville metro area. There's like 12 schools that have a club hockey team and they all have to share those same 2 ice sheets. A kid can definitely play a lil hockey here. But it's pretty much impossible to grow up in the South and develop into an actual NHL pro caliber player one day. If you/your kid actually thought they had a shot at pro or even D1 scholarship hockey one day you pretty would have to relocate your family at an early age to Michigan, Minnesota, the Dakotas, New York, Pennsylvania ect. just to give your child a punchers chance to be in the proper environment playing the right competition with coaches that actually know what they are doing in order to maybe one day reach a high arse level within that sport.
Becoming a big time hockey player at the highest level is a REALLY REALLY fricking hard and brutal journey. You aren't raising a future NHLer growing up in say Nashville or Bham

Well Austin Matthew’s pulled it off somehow. He grew up in Arizona I think. It’s hard for southern kids to become a great hockey player. Shame we can’t get more rinks for kids to play on here. The NHL and some former player should start coming into places and building more places to play to help grow the game.
I never been to a Preds game but I’m gonna make it someday. Playoff hockey is probably some of the best entertainment around and would love to go see a playoff game in Nashville sometime.

If they want to take their own time to try to help increase accessibility for black kids, fine, but don’t blame their lack of participation on racism. It’s a personal choice.

My daughter just returned from an elite skills camp outside Montreal. 14/15 year olds 70 or so kids, a lot of talent on the ice from Canada and US. One of the best kids and the “coaches camper of the week” was a kid from Nashville. He was also a minority.
Hockey in Canada is in a bit of a decline, even before covid, the high end talent will always be there but the numbers have peaked. The Canadian economy is crap and has been for 10 years. Everyone stating how expensive it is are 100% correct and it’s hitting all Canadians hard, without race being a factor.
Kapernick needs to go away.

More new sheets have been laid in Florida and Texas than anywhere else in North America over the last 10 years. USA hockey just needs to get quality coaching in these new areas and the talent will take off.

If they can ever get the coaching up to par the south will always produce the athletes.

My son in law coaches hockey at a high level.
Coaching is an issue no doubt.
Trying to grow an expensive sport with limited coaching and expensive equipment.
Limited parents having experience playing the game.
Makes it a tough sport for to grow.

6% of America are black males. 30% are white males. Either white kids are doing other things or the black kids really are that much better or…… I don’t know. Seems like a big statistical question mark to me. The NBA and NFL I mean

Hockey is regionalist too. They need to come to rural Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, etc.

If Kaepernick disrespected "O, Canada" or "God Save the Queen" he wouldn't leave the arena under his own power.

When Colin Kaepernick was at Nevada and they interviewed him, he seemed pretty cool. Now I hear the name and all I can think is POS.
