Coca-Cola Replaces General Counsel
By Pan Demetrakakes, Senior Editor
Apr 22, 2021
The general counsel for The Coca-Cola Co. has been replaced, less than a year into his tenure – and less than four months after he sternly warned law firms wishing to work with Coca-Cola to diversify.
Bradley Gayton is being transitioned from general counsel to “strategic consultant,” Coca-Cola announced April 21. In-house counsel Monica Howard Douglas will be promoted to general counsel.
Gayton was hired Sept. 1. Early this year, he sent letters to several dozen law firms, telling them that if they wished to do business with Coca-Cola, they would need to meet specific numerical goals for diversity, and that “we will no longer celebrate good intentions or highly unproductive efforts” that don’t result in diverse staffing.
Forcing racial quotas is RACISM at it's best!

No. They just realized they weren't taking their own medicine. You're a fool if you think this is them swinging back to the norm.

How about “ Be less racist“?

Just saying.....
I think some people doubted the veracity of my story.
And, yes, Coke was one of the corporations that contacted my friend's firm.
And, believe me, Coke is not the only firm to do this. This was a coordinated effort run by an extortion force much greater than these corporations.

It's amazing this has been around for a while in big law
Corporations getting no significant economic pressure to do so make demands regarding the diversity of their service providers. It's just unbelievable, and honestly it's the first thing that tipped me off that what is happening in our culture isn't the product of business judgment. In law school it was sort of pitched as profit-motivated, but the reality is it isn't, at all.

Coca Cola can pound sand.
I need to see real regret and apologies and genuflecting to the "We are a business and not getting involved in politics and wokeness" crowd, before I will ever buy another coke product.

Being put in a "strategy" role is like getting put in the corner. You've been relegated to having no say and it's a cooling off period before they eventually let you go for good.

This is weak sauce damage control, nothing more.

How is this on the GC?
Pretty sure the GC has a big say in selecting outside law firms they work with.

They can't fire him; he's black. I guess "transitioning" him to another role was the only option.

Seems you only got one download in that post.
I think most people are blissfully unaware of the assault which is & has been underway. Specifically politicians/ Republicans, who want no business of actually having to stand up and fight for anything.

We will only celebrate diverse staffing that results in unproductive efforts.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

I hope their empire crumbles

Translation: Even if these affirmative action hires are complete f*cking idiots who would be fired under ANY objective standard and analysis, you must still keep them on your payroll strictly because they are black.
I'm guessing Bradley was intimately familiar with not meeting these objective standards in his professional career.
