Yeah...that's gonna work out real well for him in a federal court in WVA.

i think it's a state court in WVA (for now)

no clue how that was the proper venue. i actually watched a youtube clip about the complaint earlier, hoping to see the allegation of jurisdiction/venue, but i don't think the complaint contained it

And they've been addressed. We're not your fricking teacher.

Yeah...no. What has been offered...not addressed are opinions on claims regarding Murray and the coal industry. My questions were to the basis of what all the non teachers opinions were based on. Just a thumbnail sketch.

I mean I voted for Trump in November and am anything but a "loser lefty" and I watch Oliver every Sunday. He does more real reporting than almost anyone on CNN, MSNBC, or Fox and most of the big papers. He cites his sources, presents both sides of the argument, and covers important topics no one else is covering (mandatory minimums, gerrymandering, civil asset forfeiture, mega-church scams, fundraising by Congressmen, etc.). Sure I disagree with the conclusion most times, and he "makes fun of my team", but he is still funny and intelligent.

After things like mines collapsing, there is always an investigation. What were the conclusions of any investigation? (I honestly know nothing of the situation).

Oliver reported both that Murray claims it was an earthquake and that a government investigation claims it wasn't

Murray's legal theory is that since Oliver relied on that "outdated" and "biased" information (ignoring a packet of propaganda they sent Oliver before airing), it's defamation/libel (even though Oliver was simply reporting what the report said, not that an objective fact had been determined)

HBO will no doubt pay for it:

HBO valuation = $72 Billion...I think they/he will be alright.

It's also hilarious that the anti PC crowd would be so in favor of a billionaire suing because someone said mean things about him.

You are wrong as usual.

I'm on dial-up and Youtube videos won't work.

I watch Youtube videos only when I'm using a friend's computer.

What are you even trying to say? Less than half the segment was on the coal industry and the coal industry isn't suing him, Murray is.

You want a concrete example of something, he called out Murray for continuing to say an earthquake caused the collapse of a mine in Utah or Nevada even after an investigation showed that that wasn't the case. Oh and he made fun of Murray for always telling a story about how a squirrel told him to start his coal company, even though Murray's reps issued a statement saying he didn't actually talk to squirrels.

I was referring to Murray before Oliver's rant and the basis of the claims against him.

Good. Let HBO pay for the damages. They have deep pockets.

I'm in favor of a rich or poor person suing for defamation when someone defames them.

Don't you agree?

what damages?

the segment was Sunday

today is Thursday

assuming Murray's claim is even legal (when it's 99.9% not), what damages has he suffered in 4 days?

You haven't even seen it, so you don't have a clue if it's defamation or not. If Oliver loses this, then basically all comedy and negative press pieces are banned. There's nothing Oliver said about him (save for him looking like a geriatric Dr Evil) that didn't have a source attached to it. If he can win simply off the Dr Evil thing, then Trump can sue basically anyone in America who has said he has shitty hair.
