Was there any information on what Murray based the earthquake claim on?

Seems there were mixed conclusions as to the cause.

quote:

A coal mine collapsed Monday in central Utah, trapping six miners, less than 20 miles from the epicenter of a minor earthquake, authorities said. The Genwal mine reported a "cave-in" at 3:50 a.m., an hour after the magnitude 4.0 earthquake, the Emery County sheriff's office said. "Rescue workers are on scene trying to locate six miners that are unaccounted for," the sheriff's office. The miners are in the Crandall Canyon Mine. "There had been no contact with them," said Dirk Philpot, a spokesman at the Mine Safety and Health Administration in Washington. The miners were believed to be 1,500 feet below the surface, about four miles from the mine entrance, Philpot said. Rescuers were within 2,500 feet of their presumed location, he said. He had no details on the difficulty of the search. Walter Arabasz, the head of the University of Utah's Seismograph Stations, said there was a clear link between the quake and the mine collapse, based on wave lengths.

and all Oliver did was say one report (the official government one, iirc) said it wasn't an earthquake

so Murray sues him for defamation

And all this did was drew attention to it, while giving John Oliver attention too. Of course, this kind of attention is good for a show.

I mean I voted for Trump in November and am anything but a "loser lefty" and I watch Oliver every Sunday. He does more real reporting than almost anyone on CNN, MSNBC, or Fox and most of the big papers. He cites his sources, presents both sides of the argument, and covers important topics no one else is covering (mandatory minimums, gerrymandering, civil asset forfeiture, mega-church scams, fundraising by Congressmen, etc.). Sure I disagree with the conclusion most times, and he "makes fun of my team", but he is still funny and intelligent.

He's not close to being a Lenny Bruce or even a George Carlin.

I agree. The lawsuit is a spitball. I think he would have a stronger case pointing out that the mine was not part of Murray Energy, but an affiliate organization, and making a direct connection to Murray was defamation..

the youtube thing was talking about that

this is just Streisand Effect shite

HBO has a legal team that reviewed this. they're going to remove this from bumfrick circuit court in WVA and throw a huge anti-SLAPP defense and probably demand attorney's fees. then when they win, Oliver is going to pour it on

Who has ever proclaimed that about Oliver? I think even he would mock the concept of him being as good of a comedian as those two.

If he did, good for him. Did he point out that the collapse happened an hour after the quake?

It's also hilarious that the anti PC crowd would be so in favor of a billionaire suing because someone said mean things about him

This won't even get to court. Dude is just blowing smoke. He sues everyone who says anything bad about him or his company. He is a little cry baby.

And not being as funny as two of the greatest comedians of all time is not a negative.

making fun of his age and appearance?? That's not PC!

re-stating government reports isn't exactly "making false statements." This guy is a total loser snowflake cuck!

stating "a government report reached a conclusion" is a better way to put it

how can you misrepresent the truth when you're referencing a document of another party, with full citation to that party?

Well regardless of how useful or accurate a government reports are, citing an official report is not defamation--which is the point of this topic.

No one has to. I'm saying he isn't.

Being good at "mocking" doesn't make Oliver a good comedian.

Then why bring it up if no one has? It's like saying "Tom Brady is a better quarterback than Tim Tebow". Yeah, no shite. What enlightening thought are you going to tell us next? "The sky is blue"?
