Failure to report a "coal outburst" at the mine four days before the first fatal collapse. "The failure to report this accident," MSHA inspectors wrote, "denied MSHA an opportunity to investigate it and learn that the mining methods provided inadequate protections."

2. Two failures in March and August of 2007 to revise the mine's roof control plan after "coal outbursts" and bounces" that "caused substantial damage" showed that the plan "was not adequate or suitable for controlling" the movement and falling of rock.

3. Failure to leave pillars of coal long enough and wide enough to meet safety standards and to hold up the roof of the mine as coal was removed. The pillars "did not provide sufficient strength to withstand stresses," mine inspectors wrote, leading to "sudden and violent failure of the overstressed coal pillars" in the Aug. 6 and Aug. 16 collapses, in which nine miners and rescued were killed.

Murray Energy "allowed the conditions at Crandall Canyon to deteriorate," says assistant Secretary of Labor Joe Main. The company "ignored warning signs that was encompassed by those violations that led to that tragedy."

They ignored early signs and put people at risk.

Just a little reminder to those not familiar with coal country, the coal miner and coal companies arent always on the same side.

Sorry..I'm not spending 24 minutes watching a leftie evangelist bloviate and "cleverly" quip.

Yet you've spent more time than that "bloviating" in this thread about said video that you won't watch.

So now coal = Fossil fuels and nuclear? As it stands we cannot effectively move completely to renewables, that said coal should be completely eliminated from the energy sector.

I also don't get the push back with renewables. They're localized forms of energy production. If your goal is sustained, un-outsourceable energy jobs then renewables fit the bill. It's become overly politicized due to the global warming "debate" and oil wanting to preserve their hold on the market but you can even see companies like Exxon starting to shift and prepare for the change.

Yes, but please show me where this man was defamed. You don't think Oliver and the writers are smart enough to make fun of this guy without defaming him after he sent them a cease and desist letter prior to the show even being aired?

The tards in this thread denouncing the piece have all without fail refused to watch it. It's like talking to a brick wall.

I got to watch a small portion of Oliver's "comedy" routine against Murray on CBS This Morning and I'm glad Murray is suing him.

Oliver obviously is anti-coal and wants to defame Murray personally.

By claiming Murray did nothing to help the trapped coal miners and isn't concerned with improving the conditions in his company's coal mines, Oliver is defaming Murray.

Hypocrisy is overwhelming. You rage against melting snowflakes...but now that there's a raging snowflake going after a liberal you are 100% on board.

If you had read all of my posts like you pretend to have done then you would know that, regardless of their political affiliation, I am in favor of people suing someone who defames them.
