And end the dedicated dorms, food, training facilities, 27 coaches, money for scouting etc past a simple video set up, and no more academic advisors/tutors. I would add no alumni contributions over $200. and one per year per contributor. All games are conference games plus 1 or 2 depending on the size of the league.

Simple put, treat it like an old style high school set up: coach whoever shows up for practice out of the regular student body in the fall. A head coach, a line coach, a backfield/receivers coach, and a linebackers/kicking coach. With caps on the pay. An equipment manager and several real student assistants. In other words a real University of Alabama football team with guys playing for the love of the game. 10 game schedule with a 16 team playoff using the AP and coaches type polls. And if the interest in the game goes down then GOOD! I might get interested again. Right now it is simply a professional minor leagues and the minor league players are rebelling to be treated like what they are: hired hands. Let the NFL form their own minor leagues, draft them out of high school and pay them. And everybody wins.

Jim Thorpe, an all-American, would have to go to his part-time job following a football game.

That's when it was a game.

Today it's a business. A lot has been lost.

I don't feel like that would be possible using just the guys from the student body that show up for practice in the fall. I would think that, in order to get through a long schedule like that, you would need players who are dedicated to being an athlete. Guys who have gone through workouts and training to be prepared for a season like that.

That's why I say big time college sports is over, little college sports can go on.

It is beyond ridiculous today. I'm in the minority that would gladly welcome this. Student Athlete. What a concept. Come try out for the team!

I know families that have benefited greatly from athletic scholarships, I get it. However, it doesn't make it any less ridiculous that an ACADEMIC institution is giving up slots for people that don't give two shiats about Academics.

Guys who are prepared and dedicated would most likely be the ones making the team.

The NFL and colleges/universities have zero interest in a minor league system. The NFL is content with colleges bearing the cost of developing players, colleges make far too much money for them to change it. The service academies should be the model for college football programs. Setting God and country aside from the academy model, college players should be students first, football players second. No special dorms, no separate dining facilities, none of the current perks that players have should be allowed.

They would be the first ones to take a job in the “minors”. No recruiting or eligibility issues to deal with. I’m sure it would still be a pay cut, but not as big of one as staying in the college setting that has been described in this thread.

That's part of the problem, I would say some of what you suggest is improper or contrary to federal and state law.

If individuals schools want to make the decision not to provide those things, I see nothing wrong with that... but as a group they should not be dictating anything as far as compensation or equivalent.

Part of the problem is the NFL. They like the system as it is now. They don't have to develop a minor league.

He also threw out the suggestion to Aggie boosters to go buy some players so the teams after Junction Boys team were on probation.

They did pretty good, got John David Crow and Charlie Krueger among others.

People are always going to get ringers

Probably would be the equivalent of your team’s preferred walk-ons, walk-ons and a small percentage of the current scholarship players. Personally, I can enjoy football at any level if they’re coached well.

I'm glad you included the words "old school" because what I read and hear nowadays there's plenty of high school "recruiting" going on.
