Exactly. He and cucker tried the math via CNN (lulz) and it came out to an extra 120 per person per year or something.

It is an odd argument.

- Tariffs are great, bring back manufacturing, whatever. Middle class Valhalla.

- Tariffs a just a threat to get them to do what we want.

"Bad" is an oversimplification because it doesn't answer the all-important question: "Bad" with respect to what? I just hope people recognize that tariffs have a cost. If what you get for that cost is worth it to you, then they're a good thing, but a lot of people talk about them like they're a free lunch. They're not.

Odds that you even attempt to apply this principle to your private life are close to zero. You don't have to wait for the government, you can pay more for "Made in the USA" right now and I'll bet you don't.

if prices rised some to keep jobs here i am good.

it won't be worse than the shite we see now with harris' inflation and huge rise of costs for goods and services.

with trump we only had 1% inflation. goods/services were nowhere this high

BUT MUH TARIFFS!

After all the stupid regulations governing such things and offshore junk manufacturing, you’re lucky to get 5 years now.

If us manufactures can compete, they will make the panels.
Rhey can’t. Labor, regulation, and access to raw materials make it a non starter.

Which begs the question, if US manufacturers can “compete” why do they need a tariff to eliminate competition?

This is because you don't immediately see the benefits of tariffs. A new manufacturing plant doesn't appear the day after a tariff is enacted.
See the solar panel example. We’ve seen so little movement, Biden raised the tariff to 50%.

It would probably take a 200-300% tariff to bring COGS parity. So let’s say that happens, why should US citizens pay 2-3x for solar panels as the rest of the world? Will they make America great?

You people against tariffs are so myopic. You only look at a single aspect of tariffs and completely ignore everything else
Nope. The simpleton view is “just raise the cost of imports and people will make stuff here”. To come to that conclusion you have to ignore living standards, cost of labor, access to raw materials, all sorts of stuff.
