It should be 18, just like alcohol, stripping, gambling, banging, voting, marriage, the draft, and the ability to consent to a contract. We have to stop this incessant infantilization of adults. Teach them the risks and consequences and let them decide for themselves, and then let them be responsibility for all of the consequences (both good and bad) themselves.

IMO it should either be 17 or 18. At that age you are no longer "required' to attend school, you can legally get married without you parents permission, you can rent/buy a home, etc. And as we all know, you will definitely need a drink the first few times you pay rent/mortgage.

Except that a lot of these “adults” choose not to die for this country because a lot of them don’t give a shite about this country.

If this is your criteria, then let the 18 year olds that have chosen to die, do this on base.

But the maturity of 18 year olds keeps declining. I don’t know what percent of them think it’s okay to burn the flag. But I will wager that the percent has increased. And in that case, frick them.

That's because our society isn't treating them like adults. If we keep treating them like children by shielding them from criticism and protecting them from the consequences of bad decisions, they will continue to act like children. The problem is that high school and college administrations as well as parents are babying their teens into adulthood.

This is one issue where I agree with Europeans.

We are so arse-backwards.

We let total moronic texting no attention span kids get on the roads with a weapon called a car as early as 15 years-old but you can't have a beer until you're 21.

While Europe is you can have a beer at 15 years-old but your arse ain't driving until you are 19 years old or older.

You don't prevent drinking and driving from stupid kids by taking away the alcohol - they can always get alcohol. You take away the fricking car until they're mature enough to drive responsibly.

As for Cigs. Who gives a shite? There really should be no age limit and same with beer and wine in Europe...if you can see over the bar, you're legal.

Yet, I believe a pregnant minor female can get an abortion without parental consent.

Welcome to the reality of how governments make decisions.

Maybe a little introspection will help you realize that this is why many oppose government in basically all but TOTALLY necessary circumstances.

Because even in the NECESSARY circumstances, their decisions will be based on shitty reasons.

I just wish they’d charge $10 per butt deposit. You have to return your 20 butts when you buy a new pack or pay $200 again.

^^^^^F'n this

Easily one of my greatest pet peeves when I first joined the Army was fricking "butt patrol" having to get done by the lower enlisted who did NOT smoke having to get done in areas where a bunch of senior enlisted or officers smoked.

If alcohol, smoking, and gambling are 21 then the voting age should be 21.
