We need to decide upon one age of adulthood for all things. 16, 18, 21 whatever just pick one and at that age you’re an adult and have to own your decisions. Multiple different ages for freedoms is stupid. You either are an adult with all the freedoms and responsibilities or you’re not.

Age for everything should be either 18 or 21.

If you’re old enough to die for your country you should be old enough to buy cigarettes and beer.

So either move enlistment age up or alcohol age down.

Alcohol, tobacco, voting and enlistment should all be 21.

I have never agreed with this. I believe if you are old enough to take a bullet for this country and die for it then you are old enough to have a beer or cigarette.

Seems to me that if you are old enough to go to war, you are old enough for everything else.

I mean I agree, I actually joined the army at 17 since I graduated high school younger than most and it required parental permission. I would choose 18 but 21 isn’t too unreasonable. My main thing is it just needs to all fall under one age.

Are democrats going to riot in the streets over this? They think people are adults and should vote at 16. It’s going to be crazy for them to push younger voting age while the age for smoking and drinking is 21 . We need to pick one age for people being adults.

They are adults... Who want you to pay for the long term health consequences of their poor choices.

I've never smoked a cigarette in my life. But I have often been skeptical about the medical cost issue. Last year I found a study that showed smoking saves the non-smoking public money in the long run.
Sure they die of diseases. But so does every non smoker at a later date in life than a smoker. The elderly need medical care more often and for longer periods than the smoker with lung cancer who dies at 60.
And then there is social security.

Most people make “bad decisions” that could have long term health consequences. I agree though that tax payers paying for people who smoke a pack a day or dip a can a day is dumb and if can’t moderate you should have insurance coverage for what you know must be coming.

It’s absolutely age discrimination.

It’s pretty funny when LA raised the drinking age a 20 year old challengers the DUI law as discriminatory based on age (the LA constitution protects against discrimination based on age)

And the LA Supreme Court said it was discriminatory but we needed federal highway fund so suck it

Dumb, and I dont smoke.

More nanny state BS. Why is the govt telling legal adults what they can and can't do to themselves?

This is right up there with the drinking age being 21.

Or at least the same age if not 21.

Who thinks voting and enlistment require less maturity than drinking and smoking?

It's idiotic.
