China Tightens Grip On RARE EARTHS After U.S. CHIP BAN

Interesting. I did not know we rely on some of these Rare Earths to build the F-35. It is amazing we let it get this far without addressing the situation a long time ago
"CHINA TIGHTENS GRIP ON RARE EARTHS AFTER U.S. CHIP BAN
China just hit back with export controls on 12 rare earth elements and now wants foreign buyers to get licenses too.
Beijing controls 70% of rare earth mining, 90% of processing, and 93% of permanent magnet production.
It also refines 100% of global samarium. Good luck building an F-35 without that.
Each fighter jet needs 417 kilograms of rare earths.
Your Electric Vehicle and AI data center aren’t far behind on the dependency scale.
This isn’t just a trade spat. It’s a supply chain chokehold with national security consequences."

China builds junk and can't even produce their own chips to match ours. They are going to be really screwed when other sources for rare earth elements are found.

Time to partner up with Brazil then.

The US led the way in rare earth materials for years and gave it up to China in the 80's because of environmental issues. We can bring it back, we just have to change a few rules, utilize new technology, and start building.

All US needs to do is require licenses to buy any chip made in America, China technology will come to an immediate halt, 2 can play those games

wonder whose bank accounts swelled in that time-frame

Uh, most chips aren't made in USA. Nvidia and AMD's most advanced chips are made at TSMC in Taiwan. Ther new plat in AZ. is coming on line but cannot replace Taiwan production. Intels AZ plant could foundry a lot of the work. Intel needs some cash and could accelerate completion of their newly started Ohio site to help. Probably why the government has a 10% stake in Intel. Intel is also releasing 18 angstrom technology currently, which may help US market share.
USA needs to do 2 things.
1) Put chip control agreements in place with other countries with respect to China.
2) Cut the crap and start refining and processing our own rare earth minerals, and encourage investment in friendly countries for rare earth production trade.

So all you taco lovers now see why Trump was wavering on a deal with chini.
Imagine that, the president of the US has a bit more knowledge about our trade position than some clowns in their mom's basement.
Remember when we had the do gooder push to not buy rare earth components mined with slave labor.......so we let china buy them and we bought from chini.....how is that working out now???
Reminds me of the jesse jackson days when he forced American companies to sell off assets for a song in South Africa, that were snapped up by locals who then slashed the wages of blacks.....but we felt good about ourselves even though we ruined the very lives we pretended to care about.

We had rare earth mining and processing in TX but China funds their production 3X the cost to produce them. They are just about everywhere

This is why Trump wants Bagram back

We had rare earth mining and processing 20 or years ago or less.
China heavily subsidized their rare earth mining and processing to underprice everyone else by a LOT.
China's rare earth minerals mostly if not all, comes from iron ore tailings. We have millions of tons of that just in Minnesota.
A year and a half ago, I was at the Ormet plant at Burnside to look at equipment to potentially purchase while it was being demolished. I stumbled into a lab/pilot plant set up in a warehouse thinking it was part of the project. I would have made serious bank selling all of the equipment but it was owned by Element USA which is extracting rare earths, and iron ore pellets, from bauxite tailings at the site and at the old Kaiser Aluminum plant in Gramercy.
There is also technology by Sharp Pulse, to extract them, and lithium from produced water from oil/gas wells.
News media reports are from dullards

Yes, but that will take at a minimum 5-10 years to scale. So if China goes through with this, what do we do in the meantime?

If tweet fails to load, click here. "U.S. COUNTERMOVES
DoD response:
• $400M equity in MP Materials (largest shareholder)
• $150M loan for heavy REE separation
• 10-year offtake for new magnet facility
• Lynas-Noveon partnership for U.S. production
India/Australia ramping exploration.
Recycling emerging: 10-20% recovery potential from e-waste.
Reality check: 5-10 years minimum to scale. U.S. = <5% global processing today."

Incorrect. China has come a long way in manufacturing. CEO of Apple Tim Cook admitted China is no longer the cheapest labor but the skill of their labor is what sets them apart from other countries
Huawei is also rumored to have developed a EUV Lithography machine that will allow them to produce 3nm chips in 2026. So if that turns out to be factual they will probably ban Nvidia chips in their Market like we ban Chinese Electric Cars in America

Based on this video, China's 3nm EUV lithography machine will start trial production in the third quarter and mass production in 2026.
The 3nm EUV lithography machine was developed by Huawei by integrating technologies from related domestic units. The equipment is located at Huawei's Songshan Lake base.
China's lithography machine technology route uses LDP high-voltage discharge tin vapor luminescence technology, which is a brand-new technology route and has been patented.
This is different from the LPP laser tinning solution that ASML (ASM) of the Netherlands has been using for nearly 20 years.
The Chinese solution is smaller in size, consumes less energy and is more efficient. Incredible."

Drones are the future.
Aircraft carriers and f35s might be obsolete soon.

For this, we can thank Clinton for allowing GM to sell Magnequench to China, and W for letting them move it out of America.
We really do not have leaders that can see past their nose.

China building ships in the desert? MY FAT arse!
Where's the steel production? Thousands of construction, welders, electricians pipe fitters, etc.
Where's all the support equipment like cranes, people to feed, food, housing, entertainment, etc.?
Offices, design teams, Services during construction teams, etc.?
What a bunch of nonsense!
