Invasion would be insanely difficult for China and I don't think their military has the capability or competency to pull it off unless they are willing to accept massive losses. China would do well in defending itself, but its military is not an expeditionary type.
China has embarked on a campaign of subversion in Taiwan, just like in the US. They won't have to fire a shot to "re-unite" with Taiwan, most likely.

That will be a bloody mess for China. Taiwan is a mixture of the former Kuomintang and many mixed non-Chinese.

I don’t think China invades. why would they? They’ll take Taiwan, the same way socialists conquered the US. First culturally, then politically, finally at the ballot box.

If you look at what China has done over the last 40 - 50 years, their military moves have been incremental and risk averse. I don’t expect an invasion of Taiwan to happen, though it’s possible they judge this is the best risk vs reward timing for an invasion. Still, I wouldn’t bet on it.

Why? China has zero reason to ever militarily invade Taiwan. The PRC plays the long game.
They’ll have Taiwan annexed politically from within by 2040 without a shot fired.
