They did, I just don't know how successful it was.

I haven't been back since 2019, but of the three times I went in 2019, one thing I noticed when visiting the small villages filled with old people.

The government was buying up their land in the name of "Tourism" and moving them to large population centers. So many times I was told the government has given us money for our land and has an apartment for us to live in somewhere in the city.

Always wonder how many of them are left.

This is real. Japan is facing same situation. Folks have been discussing this for the last 5ish years heavily.
It's a real thing. America and Europe birth rates are all that much better.

The US was the one developed country with strong demographics for continued growth over our lifetimes thanks to immigration.

Without any intention to be snooty or snotty or anything of the sort, I would simply say that the world seemed to manage just fine without China being the source of the type goods to which you referred, during this period of China’s chokehold on big tchotchke.


I presume there would be another unavoidable evolution in whatever the specific case may be, botn of the necessity to “fill a gap” or address present day needs from the ground up which lots of countries have capabilities to do, modernization of various industries and services and sectors and so on, etc. 5 and Below aint gonna be as popular in coming times as it is at this exact moment in time.
