I would have stopped for sure. This is a society problem, and we are a terrible society right now. I will say, to play devils advocate, what if that was you that him? Lets say you were the first car. You know that your life is over considering that they are about to lawyer up and take everything you own. An accident. Its probably why people dont stop.

I read on a NYC blog that he died at hospital or enroute. Not posting link bc it's not verified.
But that is sickening.
How the person sitting in the car commenting or anyone else beeping their horns doesn't immediately try to intervene is just sad. Could have saved the pedestrians life.
People get run over and killed in NYC all the time though.
