Party split is inevitable, and horrible. The two sides of the Republican Party are as different as the Dems and Republicans from 30 years ago. The party of Pence, Ryan, McConnell does not fit with the MAGA movement at all. One side is viewed as reckless, brash, and strong and the other as polished, ineffective and feckless. The most difficult part to watch is the split is EXACTLY what the left wants. I feel we will remain under Dem control for at least another 10 years. Is there a realistic way out of this? A third party will not work. Shaming the MAGA crowd will not work. Ignoring the fact that such a large group exists will not work. Trump republicans will never be free from media scorn. The Romney republicans will only wear mom jeans and walk in pride parades.
Is this the end of my the Republican Party in name or viability?

I think it’s very possible the Republican Party becomes a niche party. Almost on the level of the Libertarian or Green.

With young people being as far left as they are and reliable voters....

It's not even worth saving. They are there to give an illusion of choice.

Yes

The MAGA wing will be dead in two years. They'll turn on Donald too.

People will be sick of having them in control long before that.

The Democrats are lock step together, and they view Republicans as enemy number 1.

Meanwhile, Republicans are split between MAGA and establishment Republicans who are essentially Democrats in disguise.

I've said it before that Republican leadership should have rallied behind MAGA, it was the only chance to beat the Democrats. But unfortunately many Republicans would rather Democrats win than any MAGA candidates.

The country is split in half on ideology. The pendulum will swing to the right at some point. There's no reason to panic........yet

There is no Pence or Romney base. It is MAGA vs normal conservatives. The Liz Cheney's & Mitt Romney's are nobody's choice. Not sure who comes out as the regular conservative option, but it won't be a never Trumper. It will a no longer Trumper or it will be Trump. Really pragmatic vs rather get 0% of what I want than 80%.

I hope those with children or grandchildren will take something rather than nothing.

Sure. Trump was a great President. The MAGA movement is needed. However Trump is old and unelectable. It’s just reality and wishing it was different won’t change it. His legacy will be strong and it can also be lasting if the rest of this post happens.

So given that, Trump needs to thread the needle of supporting (and encouraging MAGA supporters to support) Desantis without tying Trump’s own unelectable anchor to him. Desantis in turn threads the needle of moving the MAGA movement forward through a person who is electable. This shouldn’t be that hard as Trump and Desantis are mostly aligned on all important issues and have endorsed and supported each other throughout their political careers already.

The path is clear. Egos must be set aside to put America first and MAGA.

It probably wouldn't be a horrible thing if we ended up with like 4 or 5 parties.

After the 2020 “election” and it’s aftermath? Not a chance in hell. We are well beyond saving the republican party. Without a collapse and revolution in the next 10 years we don’t save our country. frick the republican party. They are the reason we are at this point.

Probably not. People don't really vote for policies and ideas anymore. Democrats have done an excellent job convincing a huge portion of the electorate that Republicans are evil, and now those people will vote for Democrats no matter what. It doesn't matter how bad the economy is, how high the gas prices are, how bad inflation is, etc.

Not sure any single Presidential candidate or party leader can overcome that.

Can the Republican ever be extremely and unapologetically conservative? I don’t see it. They all feed at the same trough.

Just ask yourself “what exactly has the Republican Party ‘conserved’ in the last 3 decades”, and you should have your answer.
