The democrats would rather "Get At Trump" than do what's right for America.

So they are demanding a bunch of nonsense they know he would never agree to.

Healthcare for Illegals, Money to fund democratic propaganda NPR etc, Money for Trans surgery

Because congress continues to shirk its duty and refuses to put together an actual BUDGET. As a whole, our elected representatives are trying to squeeze every last drop of blood from the American taxpayer to line their own pockets and the pockets of their contributors, but the Dems and Reps have to argue and create drama so the dumb masses (or "dumb-asses" if said quickly) will accept another continuing resolution to fund the government with no way to actually account for the way that it is spent.

The best way to handle a threatened government shut down, in my opinion, is to go ahead and allow it to happen and have all non-essential personnel placed on leave. Then, keep the shut down in place as you go through and hand out pink slips to non-essential personnel because they are in fact, non-essential. Then tell congress to get its collective shite together and present a damned budget.

All this talk about Democrats, but don't Republicans have the majority in the House? Where's the roadblock?

Need 60, so Dems will use this for leverage to get what they want, same playbook as always

Id rather it shut down so they can RIF the shite out of the workers

My wife’s uncle works for the USDA. Every shutdown is just paid vacation.

I remember one year about ten years ago. The shutdown occurred around late October. He was off work for about 3 weeks, then he had a bunch of vacation that was use it or lose it by 12/31. He ended up being off work for over 2 months completely paid.

Cause instead of budgets the government now operates off of continuing resolutions and always seem to need to be voted on this time of the year. They'll argue about this for a couple of months and threaten a shutdown but then when everyone is on vacation for Christmas and New Years and nobody is paying attention they'll pass a big bloated spending bill in the middle of the night.

Yeah, they get paid back pay if they are furloughed during the government shutdown...

I really do wonder why you guys just type random shite without any understanding of the subject

quote:

A Reduction in Force (RIF) is the formal term for layoffs in the federal government, a process used when agencies need to downsize their workforce due to factors like budget cuts, reorganization, or lack of work

quote:

Historically, a government shutdown has resulted in temporary furloughs, not permanent reductions in force (RIFs). However, a recent directive from the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) instructs agencies to prepare for the possibility of RIFs during a shutdown, which is considered a significant departure from precedent and has prompted legal questions.

Do you even Civics.......

need 50% +1 vote to pass a budget from the house

Need 50% = 1 vote to pass a budget from the senate. however, you need 60 votes to end debate before being able to vote on a budget, the 60 votes iw what is required to end a filibuster . with 53Rs 45Ds and 2Is voting with Ds, you need 7 Ds to vote with Rs to end debate or end the filibuster.

Do you remember the scene in Home Alone 2 where the bandits were climbing the rope down the building and Kevin lit them on fire so they had to try and climb back up ir just fall to their doom?

That's the Democrats right now. Either way they go, they're screwed. The Republicans are waiting on them to decide how they want to do this. They have no leverage at all.

And many are Dems disguised as republicans

This is the true issue with the statement that the House is "controlled by the GOP". There is only a 1 seat majority, and Massie is an automatic NO on anything that would be considered a win for Trump. Then there are the RINO (e.g. NY, CA, etc) Reps that are pushing for big spending measures in order to get their votes.

Yep, they are HOPING the American people that are affected by a shutdown, will blame Trump and they will score some political points. With Trump having the bully pulpit, this could easily backfire on them. It probably will, and as soon as polling shows this, the Dems will fold like a cheap suit.

I thought the issue was ACA subsidies to help people who can’t afford it get insurance? And to get said subsidies you have to be a citizen so illegals don’t enter the picture?

It’s not ACA subsidies

It’s *covid era* temporary juiced ACA subsidies

The regular ACA subsidies, which passed as part of the ACA, are still there.

Tboy basically lied when he promised in 2021 that the new ACA subsidies were only temporary until Covid ended

The OMB has publicly stated that there are plans for mass firings (not furlough) if the shutdown happens.

It's a lose/lose for Democrats (again)

For some reason the Dems in Congress are continuing to play to their base of extreme leftists. The only logical reason would be that they're convinced they cannot rely on these people to show up in the 2026 vote for their seats. They can't fall back on cheating with Trump in charge. So, the answer is to show how they are fighting tooth and nail to motivate the far left and then in 2028 move more center to have a shot at winning when larger numbers always show up to vote.

I believe the bill passed the House, now sit in Senate. Senate Democrats want $1T additional spending for illegal alien’s health care, and other stuff. Ridiculous demands, shut it down.
