Lowering personal taxes is not leftist.

That's the removal of regulation.

Replacement of prima facie personal tax revenue decrease with tariffs is not leftist.

If those tariffs are new, then that is literally new governmental regulation

quote:

Decreasing regulation is not leftist.

True. Increasing tariffs are the opposite of this.

quote:

Enabling/encouraging small business is not leftist.

It 100% can be.

quote:

Decreasing crime is not leftist.

It 100% can be.

quote:

Cutting government inefficiency is not leftist.

Again, increasing tariffs are the opposite of this. Eliminating tariffs would decrease government inefficiency in a non-Leftist manner.

I decide my dignity.

Everyone gets used by someone or some thing. There's nothing I can do about that. But I ultimately decide my own worth. I don't require legislation to tell some entity to how to value me.

Forcing healthier lifestyles on people is definitely progressive but they can be encouraged short of forced obedience.

Marxism treats humans as a means to an end (profit), so can any human be dignified when they are essentially dehumanized by our economic system?

The idea that your personal talents, skills, and potential don't belong to you, but rather belong to the state is the most de-humanizing thing I can think of.

The professor believes this also applies to capitalism.

That's the problem in their world view.

MAGA is basically a rehashing of Edwardian Era progressivism.

The focus is always on society, which is absolutely leftist.

My teacher argued that dignity is distributed by society based on capitalist values.

Your teacher is wrong. Dignity is the state of being worthy of honor or respect, but that state begins within the Self then extends outward to create the societal view (if it's agreed upon by enough of society). To say that a little differently, it originates with the individual then is adopted by society if enough of a society agrees with it. In other words, it's not distributed by economic system, it's distributed by societal adoption. This is why individuals can (and do) have dignity and behave in a dignified manner regardless of economic systems.

Sociology I presume?

I'd wager $5 he never completed a real calculus class, either.

Right. But we live in a capitalist society. Capitalism drives pretty much every aspect of our society.

No, our economy is hybrid.

You would really be victimized by an actual capitalist nation.
