I mean, aren't you speculating too? Neither of us has access to the multiverse so speculation is what we're left with. My reason for believing what I believe is that it's not like Herman Cain is a figure of particular antipathy on the left. He was pretty much a goofy guy who ran for President for a minute and was winning for a bit. That and most of the commentary is about how his death interacted so very thoroughly with the stupidest elements of his politics. And people are mean on the internet, what can I say.

Right. The idea is that Trump puts other people at risk by making mask-refusal a political identity marker, that Cain did the same thing, and the fact that he ultimately died of the disease shows the perverse self-destructive qualities of personality cults.

He just didn't have the chops to think for himself and make his own decision as to whether to wear a mask or not? Gotta be careful with that assuming folks simply don't have the intellectual horsepower to make fully considered decisions. That tends to offend people, and the Democrats are and have been very guilty of this, and it can't be good politically speaking. I've especially noticed it in their approach to black people.

It's sort of like saying it's quite bizarre you died because you weren't wearing a seat belt. Maybe you would've died anyway, but you're still better off wearing one. We can't even know if Cain contracted it at the rally, but it's obviously bad PR for the president when a surrogate is pumping people up for a rally to avoid masking and then dying of the very disease.
