The bill would require major corporations doing business in California with annual worldwide gross receipts over $100 million to review their historical records and submit sworn affidavits disclosing any past ties to chattel slavery.

Democratic committee will need to fully disclose their role.

So this isn’t even about modern day slave labor that some of these corporations use?
Dems of the board, how the hell do y’all put up with these assholes? At least hold them somewhat accountable. I know y’all want to get shite down, end homelessness, etc. The Dems are just stealing our money. Why do y’all put up with it? Get some mfers in there who want to actually accomplish the shite y’all are for.

California turned in to such a shite hole. I wonder if they’re bitching about the gas prices going up two cents?

This is their way to threaten companies who want to leave. If they leave due to taxes, the libs will claim that they don’t want to admit to supporting slavery. It’s sick

The OP specifically listed insurance, banking, and railroads.

If your company makes over $100 mil, donate 15% of that to the DNC to keep your company's name off the list.

They will go after the rail road companies using track that had any slaves constructing track
Those were Chinese Coolies. Slave status is questionable.

I’m guessing that they inheriting the negative side of things 150 years ago through mergers and acquisitions is legal considerations for this nonsense.

I feel like any company that was around in 1865 that is still around today would be making over 100 mil in revenue. To last thay long, 100 mil in revenue is really not that much.
Just off the top of my head JP Morgan, Wells Fargo, DuPont, Proctor and Gamble. There has to be more low hanging fruit I missed.

Wonder if the lawmakers will have an independent agency look into their own family histories on this matter? My guess is, not in a million years.

Yes, by all means.. All of these silicon valley companies and other high tech companies that have only been around for the last 20-30 years MUST pay reparations to California for their ties to slavery that happened 170 years ago.

I’m no expert - though I did take constitutional law in college - but this seems unconstitutional.

That could be a massive list with all the banks, insurers, textile manufacturers, shipping companies, merchants, railroads and exporters that were involved. Most of them were probably absorbed by companies still active today.

There is an easy solution. Stop doing business in California. You know they just want the information so they can steal money.

Does this include shows that broadcast in California, like The View? Will The View be required to disclose Sunny Hostin’s connections to slavery?
Sunny Hostin's family was involved in the slave trade in colonial Spain and owned at least one enslaved person. Additionally, multiple generations on both sides of her family had links to slavery, reflecting a broader historical context of her lineage.
