Likely a combination of being very early with preventative measures and lack of available testing when it really got going around here.

Obviously recreational marijuana is an effective vaccine.

Sorry not buying it made THAT much of a difference.Portland and Seattle as well.

San Francisco and Portland also have transiet/homeless situations to deal with as well

New York has 10 times the cases and TWENTY times the deaths.

There should be a much, much bigger spike in this from all 3 cities even with these preventive measures.

California also had 7000 visitors from China flying in daily up until the ban.

and the irony of it all is soy boys and virtue signalling pussies are getting sick but not the homeless shitting on their doorsteps because the homeless eat out of garbage cans and have iron clad immune systems

people they know got very sick back in January. And flu tests came back negative.

This. One of my co-workers was out for a week in January. Her flu test came back negative, but she was exhausted, could barely get out of bed, fever. When she finally went to the doctor she was diagnosed with a respiratory infection bordering on pneumonia. Given antibiotics and told to rest. Missed a full week of work and then came to work and straight to home to bed for another week and all weekends in bed. She said it was brutal.

My sister had the same kind of stuff at her office in January/February. Lots of people with flu-like symptoms, but not the flu.

We figure we've probably already been exposed and either had minor symptoms that we chalked up to a cold or sinuses and have moved on.

Being in shape doesn’t make you asymptomatic.

sigh

It certainly increases your chances to having a less severe case, which decreases your chances of getting tested

Isn't the climate similar to Italy?

Two things.

1. They instituted mitigation efforts earlier than everywhere else in the country other than Washington State.

2. At present, they have results for less than 30K tests. For reference, NY has done about 200K and Louisiana has done ~40K. So it's we're on some level flying a bit blind there.

Read somewhere a while back that Los Angeles had cut way back on testing. I believe the whole west coast has cut way back on testing. They don’t want to know. They would have to deal with it, typical liberal approach. Like the homeless situation in SF., Pelosi ignores it. No way you can convince me cities like SF and LA don’t have as many or more than New York, especially with their previous exposure to China.

This isn't it either. They were just late to get started on the testing part, like most states. California has about 60K test completed and pending results at the moment. In 2-3 days they'll zoom to #2 in the country in testing. The state that is most behind on testing is Georgia.

OK so even if true, why aren't CA hospitals over run with cases while its elected officials demand more ventilators? Why aren't there more deaths? I don't buy the whole "they are in better shape" argument. There are plenty of people in L.A. and the Bay Area in poor shape with underlying health issues.

They believed in the fake news since the beginning. So they got ahead on the social distancing thing

Bc the peak will come late April or May from what it looks like. I'm not saying we haven't been effective from SD. Just that it's out there and will hit. Laguna Honda has infections. That's an old folks home in SF. huge. Another big nursing home in LA has 15 known cases. It's just a matter of time. My friend at SF general hospital said half admitted were going on vents. We will have bad stuff here, it's inevitable. Facts.

I think that's much more likely than some myth that Californians are in better shape or their social distancing is working better. I think every region of the country will be visited by this eventually.

So not a lot of tests explains the lack of documented cases. I don’t understand the lack of documented deaths

This undoubtedly hit there in a major way. More than any other state based on the number of travelers who were in the state between December and January. Then getting a small head start on social distancing does not explain the numbers in a logical way
