The article says the criticism of Prator has gone national. Apparently he used the words 'good' and 'bad' describing types of prisoners.

I've tried 3 times to access your link - I sure wish you'd post a couple of lines from your links so we can get a glimpse into the actual message you are presenting.

I give up on this one.

I don't see what's so wrong with keeping these people incarcerated. While they're in jail they have gainful employment like building a deck for the sheriffs cousin, etc. when these knuckleheads get out they're just gonna start doing drugs again and go to jail

Because the Louisiana prison population is majority black, what he said is incidentally a bit racist.

With that said, I wish we would end the racist conversation right there because it’s a useless distraction.

He said the new plan to release non violent, high performing, well adjusted prisoners from the Department of Corrections was bad because it meant that “good” prisoners would be released, and that’s a problem because we need them in prison for the free labor they provide.

Race is a red herring. That’s fricking horrific all on its own.

Listening to Steve Prator talk makes me so very glad that I moved away from Louisiana. I knew Steve in high school. He dated my sister. I took speech classes in order to learn how not to sound like a cousin fricking, backwoods, swamp water redneck like Steve Prator sounds. Whenever I go back to visit, I will attend church with my parents. Everyone sounds just like that and my wife tells me that after a few days around them I tend to fall back into old speech mannerisms for a few days so I try to avoid customer contact for at least three days after visiting so I can go back to sounding like a normal person that isn't straight off the cotton patch.

Jesus! That's almost as much of a stretch as "all heterosexual sex is rape".

All he exposed he doesn't really understand what his job is about as he seems to be using shitty performance indicators. He seems to have fallen into that same bureaucratic mindset that says "welfare is successful because so many people are on it".

While the east and west coasts are providing safe havens for criminals.

I'll take the yokel sheriff for my security from the evil things in this world.

If you let the good prisoners out the bad prisoners won't have positive role models to look up to

Caddos prison has 1,082 black prisoners, and 563 white prisoners

He in no way in his quote singled out either race. To make his quotes racial is asinine, and completely misses the horrid issue with what he said

I did intend to infer that he sounded like a corrupt POS.

Prator does not come across as the most educated guy you've ever met. He does come across as a PH.D. in philosophy from Oxford compared to the Shreveport chief of police who is borderline retarded.

But everyone says Prator is extremely honest. He's been around a long time. If he was corrupt something would have come out by now.

The state of Louisiana is trying to save money. The Sheriff is upset because not only is he going to loose money from housing inmates he is also going to lose his free labor source.
Most parish inmates get time removed from their sentence by being trustees. That is their pay.
He is losing a big chunk of his revenue source and he will have to actually hire people to do those jobs which shrinks his profit margin.
If you think that this is about reforming criminals or crime rates you are confused. It's all about the money
