"SNAP citizenship and residency act will restrict the eligibility of food stamps to only U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents who have lived in the U.S. for 10 years."
"The second bill, the stop SNAP retail trafficking act increases the penalties for food stamp trafficking, including increasing fines up to $500,000."

Unfortunately I don’t think so. I would be elated to be wrong.
I just think there’s too much money from the “junk food and drink” lobby for people to take these things seriously.
Again, super happy to be wrong.

Is this referring to lowlifes selling their SNAP cards for cash?

I believe so, yes.
I haven't checked to see if the bill is posted. But it may also include trading SNAP for guns and/or ammo.

Raise your hand if your state has passed laws about junk foods and energy drinks on snap.
[Raises. Hand] Missouri
Granted, state level is a big leap from federal level. I'd love to see it go federal.

Tennessee’s representation is embarrassing and I say that as a native Tennesseean

Well you have never made a non-idiotic comment so frick off. You fear something like this taking hold since SNAP is likely the biggest vote buy the democrats have.

Totally agreed and would love to see it. I’ve just become cynical around these things since money a politicians is a tale as old as time.

You and Steve Cohen can go cry with race baiting Justin Pierson in a corner somewhere.

We honestly should shut down every fricking social program until all the fraud is rooted out

In the infamous footnote, after the investigation of the FBI around Russiagate.........
We could pass more laws, rules, regulations.......but if they arent following the ones currently in place.....what good will new ones do?
WTF are we doing having to pass a law to make our "civil servants" follow the laws put in place?
Its obvious we see the fraud and how it works, why havent we stopped it? Why do we need a law to enforce the existing law?

If they do t follow the first ones already in place, they know they won’t follow the second ones.
It’s all for show and a, look, we’re doing something” moment.

Didn't the "One Big Beautiful Bill" already do this?

Sounds good, but he knows it'll never become law. All of the "conservative" grocery store chain owners can rest easy.

If that's the issue, the solution is very obvious. Medicaid and Medicare pay health care providers a small fraction of their standard fees. So, have SNAP do the same; pay the junk food providers a fraction of their private market prices. Supply will adjust accordingly. The smart ones will stop selling their product to SNAP rather than pass costs to full pay customers.

It's already illegal for illegal immigrants to receive federal welfare assistance.
Why do we need another law stating the same?
Why not enforce the existing law?

This is surely false. The panicans and libs of the board have assured us all multiple times that DOGE no longer exists.
