How much has actually been built, and what did that actually cost?

It gets worse. Even if they did complete it, it would suck because there are so many reroutes and stops. It wouldn't actually be a very fast trip anymore.

You guys would really laugh your asses off if you were here and could see it. Since you aren't this is what they're doing in Madera County, just north of Fresno:
I'm sure the incoming graffiti will add some charm to the concrete.
For the Merced to Bakersfield portion we're talking roughly 150 miles and it isn't through mountains or hills like they'll have if they ever wanted to connect SoCal to the Bay, the Valley to SoCal or the Valley to the Bay. It's farmland. This is as easy as it can be and it can only get worse. I freaking hate HSR.

Correct. It takes me just under 90 minutes to get to Bakersfield and 3 hours to Los Angeles. Why would I give up my car to gain maybe an hour and then have the added expense of having to uber wherever I want to go when I get down there? It's freaking stupid as hell. Merced is only 45 minutes north of Fresno. I'm sure as hell not doing that either.
