Just from a national security standpoint shouldn’t they be able to produce some steel? I am not an expert on usage of steel in an economy, lol. Serious question.

They still can, stop listening to these idiots.

They just arent using raw matarials (coke, iron ore and limestone) in the blast furnace, they use scrap and tune it while its melting.

Probably enough steel existing that there is no need to produce more? I’d assume so. It’s everywhere.

Didn't they used to be a mighty empire?

Our Patriots ruined them.

Seriously, what have they done since a few farmers with pitchforks and shovels whipped their asses?

Listen, what are you going to do in crisis now that you no longer have the ability to make raw steel?

Is everybody’s patio furniture going to be confiscated and cars?

You don’t make any sense in justifying this boondoggle of a decision.

And Sir, that is that…

They're deindustrializing. It's their penance for being world colonizers. But hey . . . they're going to freeze and starve to death with a clear conscience.

Wasn’t Mao’s goal with the Great Leap Forward to destroy Britain as a steel producer?

Yep. It's a quicker process and you can get the recipe pretty close right from the beginning by using certain amounts of different types of scrap ( shred, Plate and Structural, etc.) in the initial charge.

I worked in a steel mill melt shop until 2001 when the mill closed.

Here is a very basic primer if interested.

Electric arc or blast furnace create the same products. One is just recylcled.

And to think, they dominated the world until somewhere around World War II. Please save us from the same fate, God (and Trump).

The book I'm reading on immigration had a lot on what has happened to the UK over the last 30 years. One thing that stuck out was the impact of political language. Here in the U.S. we are used to the left avoiding arguments just by saying 'Well, you're just a racist.' It has no meaning these days. Over there it's 100 times worse. If a candidate is charged with saying something racist his party will replace him.

So these mini mills, they are capable of producing enough steel to build ships, tanks, etc?

“Supply and demand's”

You just cut your pecker off going woke glomo-homo.

Ten years from now you will have Americans and or Japanese training the Brits how to make raw steel again because they have lost the ability to fend for themselves.

This decision is a horrible one for Europe.

Seriously, why shut down an ability and industry because of stylish politics?

How much damage to the world can one production plant cause?

It just boggles the mindset of those who would envision the action from a logistical and National security standpoint.

We shouldn't be upvoting this as if we are happy to see Britain fail.

They can create anything the blast furnaces create.

Not only that, they don't have the environmental regulations and safety laws to deal with that we do, so they could dump cheap steel making it impossible to compete.
Seems like at that time, steel was around $315.00 a ton, look where it is now.
