Do we really need NATO? Russia has survived for this long without the Warsaw Pact. Let NATO dissolve and the U.S. can enter defense agreements on a nation-by-nation bases. I'm sure Eastern Europe, Italy, and maybe the UK would still love to let us have bases on their soil. Screw the French, Germans, Belgians, Dutch, and Danes.

Given this is a treaty, don’t more than Trump have to agree to pull out?
Not generally.

How would that save us money? We’d still be paying Germany, the UK, Norway, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, Greece, Turkey, and Spain—-at least—to host our military installations that WE want to be there to monitor and respond to events in the North Atlantic and Mediterranean and facilitate/supply/support our operations in African and Western Asia.
The only nations where we are deployed to ostensibly protect the host nations—Poland, Lithuania and the other former Warsaw pact countries who ask us to be there—are our best allies in the alliance
What advantage would leaving nato provide in that context? NATO has never drawn us into conflict. We dragged NATO into Afghanistan and the Serbian air campaign.

Trump hints US could 'pull out of NATO' over Greenland
Getting out of NATO is a huge win regardless of what happens with Greenland.
NATO should have went away with the Warsaw Pact

Why?

Because it became obsolete when the Sovient Union fell.
It should have been dissolved and new treaties formed at that time.

Or we could just avoid foreign entanglements like some old white dude suggested.

And these new treaties would be fundamentally different—how? Because bilateral treaties with each of the member states, with all of said member states (plus more) being a part of the EU’s collective defense agreements (sans Turkey, Norway, and the UK which have their own agreements with EU members) wouldn’t really be all that different. Just more paperwork.

He also suggested it at a time when it took a piece of paper three weeks to cross the Atlantic.

You are ignorant ti the value of Greenland?
Defense of Greenland: Agreement Between the United States and the Kingdom of Denmark, April 27, 1951
See Article II in the agreement. Both the flags of Denmark and the USA will fly over the "defense areas" in Greenland.
quote:
The national flags of both countries shall fly over the defense areas.
It is agreed that responsibility for the operation and maintenance of any defense area shall fall to the Government of the United States of America.

That is genuinely idiotic.

The US has not avoided any foreign entanglements in its early history. It wasn’t some isolationist state. It was an actively expanding state. Not only that, Monroe laid out the foreign policy aspirations of the US so clearly that the US actively pursued that policy since it was announced.

Annexation of a territory belonging to a sovereign country is against international law. Greenland is part of Denmark. The easiest way for the USA to obtain Greenland is through cession after Greenland declares independence from Denmark...Denmark has granted Greenland the right of self determination. After independence, the Greenlandic population would then have to vote to give up its newly won sovereignty in order for the USA Congress to have legal authority under the Territorial Clause of the Constitution to acquire Greenland. Taking Greenland by force would be tantamount to what Russia did annexing Crimea from Ukraine.

I wouldn't have thought there would be six Kamala Harris fans on the board. But I guess there are.

NATO and the glaring fact that established Western democracies do not declare war, steal each other's territories/resources, or fight major battles against each have kept peace in Europe since 1945. Now we want to change that dynamic?

No more than you are if you don't remember that getting out of NATO/UN goes back to his first term, and many of his voters have wanted it.
Ohhh and getting Greenland isn't a Trump thing, but something our nation has wanted for a very long time.
Just get it done. NATO nations have proven themselves worse than being partners.

Stuck on stupid I see. Israel is not a member of NATO.
We can't support Isreal and their interests in the middle east without NATO. I get it you're a boomer, but F22's can't fly fricking 12000 miles.
Remember when we bombed iran, impossible without NATO. Pull your head out of your arse.

Yes. Yes we do. As long as, Europe keeps destroying their culture, then it needs to be in the table. Hopefully done.
