Supreme Court to decide Trump’s immunity claim in election interference case
Even if the justices ultimately rule against Trump, the court’s intervention adds a further delay, meaning his trial will not start for weeks, if not months.

They may as well block out the whole next session to handle this, 8th Amendment on his NYC judgment, etc.

8th Amendment on his NYC judgment,

I doubt the final appeals court in NY rules on that by the end of this year.

Because that is the very definition of election interference.

I hope they call it out at some point as the single biggest threat to democracy.

It would be an interesting ruling by the SCOTUS if they believe Trump isn't immune from prosecution.........I kinda want it happen just to see if the American people are ready for in your grill Authoritarianism/Tyranny.

It’s Jack’s whole purpose. He may as well pack it in.

It is a catch 22 for all sides.

If he is immune, they are.

If he isn’t immune, neither are they,

And if he is immune and wins… nothing he does is illegal. It is that old Nixon chestnut of “if the president does it, it isn’t illegal.”

I think it would be more shocking if they ruled he was immune to everything and not just official buisness of the office.

If they rule for immunity, then any President can have anyone killed for any reason and it's no problem. Don't see that happening.

Jack's going to have his Documents and Obstruction cases flushed at the same time.

No - his political class must agree he should be held accountable before any courtroom takes it up. That’s what impeachment/conviction for s for.

Impeachment/conviction should be the only way to puncture presidential immunity.

That prevents political targeting (lawfare)

Yeah but those are a joke now. Both Parties pass impeachments around more than a goat skinned flask at a Hank Williams Jr. show...

This is their biggest fear.

On another note, if they are immune, expect cheating by the Dems to be up front and off the charts.

Gut feeling is they won't rule in his favor. The 3 virulent leftists will by default rule against him. Then you can nearly count on "Chief Justice John Roberts sided with the courts liberals. So we're likely starting at 5-4 with Barrett and Kavanagh as not entirely trustworthy wild cards.

Ultimately they're not ruling on his guilt but whether or not a President can be charged retroactively once he leaves office and what constitutes conduct in an official or personal capacity. I'm really not confident SCOTUS wants to wade into that precedent vs leaving it up to the discretion of prosecutors and the opinion of a jury.

I’m sorry to hear of this setback. I know you people were counting on a spring trial.

Not convictions by the senate. Those are rare.

But think about it. If Mayorkas were impeached and convicted, in theory he could be held civilly liable - if not criminally liable for the death of Laken Riley for intentionally neglecting the border.

Accountability.

This case traveled at rocket speed to SCOTUS by comparison to norms. Under a normal schedule SCOTUS would never be heard before the Fall.

SCOTUS taking the case so quickly will give the DC ""Judge"" the ability to hold Trump in court during the RNC Convention, if she wants.

It pretty much is already.

They remove whatever veil is hiding the man behind the curtain and people may decide that things are done.
