(Bloomberg) -- Boeing Co. has dismantled its global diversity, equity and inclusion department, making it the latest high-profile corporation to make changes to its DEI policy as its new top leader oversees a broader revamp of the company’s workforce.
quote:
Staff from Boeing’s DEI office will be combined with another human resources team focused on talent and employee experience, according to people familiar with the matter. Sara Liang Bowen, a Boeing vice president who led the now-defunct department, left the company on Thursday.

Boeing’s new Chief Executive Officer Kelly Ortberg is streamlining the planemaker’s operations and trimming its executive ranks as part of a broader 10% reduction in headcount. The shift also comes as large US companies face increasing pressure from conservative activists to dismantle or downplay their efforts on diversity, equity and inclusion.

Maybe they should go back to focusing on how to attach bolts to planes instead of diversity and equity and inclusion.

Stopped reading at "combined"
Nothing has changed unless the DEI hires are truly put in their place or fired
DEI hires should be treated like a mentally handicapped employee hired out of charity and pity until they can prove they're just as valuable as merit based hires

I get it and agree mostly. But they are a massive global company and it helps they are dismantling. Its a step in right direction. The current HR can push them out the door if they don’t comply with stopping it.
And it will resonate with other large companies considering eliminating too.

He's an engineer and says the company needs to get back to its engineering roots.

Diversity will happen naturally as you hire smart people

Elon had great things to say about him, and I bet he listened to Elon giving advice too

Boeing will be laying people off starting in 2 weeks

Who would have thought that going away from merit based hiring and promotion practices would be a disaster?
Posted on 10/31/24 at 5:31 pm to OU Guy
Diversity teams are never a good idea.
But there “especially“ not a good idea when they’re In charge of designing/maintaining a large metal object that is meant to fly and safely transport living human beings in the sky.

And they should be sweeping floors and scrubbing shitters at the plant, not building airplanes when they lack the skills.

There were probably 25 DEIs at the Charleston plant when I left in 2019..... what a waste of money.

Amen! Boeing needs to be a skilled and talented engineering and pilot based company.

They need to cut executives by 75% and reimagine and add that to their engineering departments

Trump needs to take out Airbus. I guarantee they have sabotaged Boeing and murdered passengers. Look at the crashes of United 585 and US Air 427. The Boeing 737 had been flying without issue for over 30 years and suddenly in the 1990's there's a fatal flaw with the rudder resulting in two back to back accidents. Note that soon after both crashes, Airbus won big borders from both United and US Air. Sorry folks, if the 737 rudder system had really been flawed, the issue would have presented itself much sooner. And you certainly wouldn't have had back to back accidents from it. Airbus also had almost no presence in the US market prior to those crashes. Those orders gave them a real presence.
Same thing with the Max. No issues and then all of a sudden you've got back to back crashes. What are the odds that it happens just that way again with the 737? Prior to the Max crashes, Airbus was and is still having big issues with inflight engine shutdowns on the A320neo family. You've got far more of the A320neo family currently parked than any operator of the 737 Max. Air New Zealand alone had to park two brand new A321neo due to engine issues. The Airbus A220 is also affected. Delta has a large chunk of their fleet parked. But tbeedia runs interference for Airbus and always has. That's a luxury they enjoy as Airbus is majority owned by the governments of France and Germany.
Spirit Aero is also a contractor that builds components for both Boeing and Airbus. But for some reason, only the parts they're building for Boeing result in production flaws and blown out doors. Isn't that strange...
I'm glad they're doing away with DEI, but Boeing didn't just up and forget how to build airplanes. They're a victim of sabotage.

Or not. And that's okay too.
Especially when you're building machines that carry human beings through the air, far above the ground.

That’s good, being that they make planes.

Look for their Space division to be sold off in the next year.
