Bodycam footage has revealed the moments after 20-year-old gunman Thomas Crooks was shot

I found this article with a better picture of the gun. I can see the scope. Wray said it had a collapsible stock, "easier to hide" but the barrel is really long.
I haven't heard this story about 2 guys filming and another one being detained. Grassley supposedly has the bodycam footage to share.

quote:
"Maybe they were involved, maybe they weren't," the apparent agent says.
"The guys that saw them filming said, 'They were filming us, then filming the guy on the roof, then filming us.'
"When the shots started firing they tried to run away, isn't that what everyone would do that had a phone?"
He then speaks about a man he said was detained on the ground.
I'm not saying they were involved or they weren't involved, but I got no problem detaining them," he can be heard saying.
"I just want to detain those guys find out what they know, who they are whatever, I'm trying to get clear information to relay back to DC."
The clip, obtained from the Beaver County Emergency Services Unit, was posted by Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley on X, obtained on Tuesday.
"July 13 Bodycam footage provides more info than the Secret Service will share with America," Grassley wrote alongside the video.

Roof was too steep and too hot to post police on said roof.
BS setup to have Trump open to being shot !

Full length handguards, for whatever reason, make a barrel appear longer to most people.

Wow - that's terrifying - a fully automatic assault sniper rifle with detachable clip- how did trump survive such a devasting weapon?

Was it a fully automatic weapon, I have not heard that! If so then Crooks father has an FFL (Federal Firearm License)if he bought that weapon!
To have an FFL you have to have an FBI background check and be fingerprinted.

How do you conclude that’s a scope vs a red dot sight, perhaps with a flip magnifier in front of it?

Which one just looks like it has a longer barrel? Don’t compare them side by side yet.
Or…
It isn’t much difference, but…
The barrel of the rifle with the full length handguard is just a hair shorter than the one with the carbine handguard. Most people think it is the other way around, and without spatial comparison they think the difference is a few inches.

I don't see how he could conceal it in a normal backpack even with a collapsible stock. I have a big hunting pack that could fit it.

what are the two "posts" or "pegs" underneath the scope and at the end of the barrel?
It almost looks like a bolt, which is not how an AR15 platform is placed into battery. The end could be a flip up sight.

When I zoomed in it looks like a scope to me.

A normal adjustable stock on an ar won't allow it to fit in a normal backpack, especially not the backpack that was by the bike that they are saying was hit. No way no how unless the barrel is sticking out the top.

It looks kinda circular. Could be a 45% thing.

Yep, good catch, that's probably what it is.

Minimum rifle barrel is !< 16", + 8" upper is only 24", two take down pins and it easily fits into a normal backpack. There are even backpacks specifically designed to tote an AR platform rifle in that manner to avoid damaging the upper/lower. But which is perfectly legal to carry around**, yet obviously restricted in that event area. All bags should have at least been searched or not permitted to enter at all.
Not sure what that has to do with anything, it should not have been there at all.
**Likely does not apply to slave states.

He had to put the gun there before the event or someone else brought it in

Do you guys even AR15? All he had to do was pull the pins and it would fit.

Aren’t they saying he/they had stashed it on the roof beforehand?
A collapsable stock 16” carbine will not fit in a “normal” backpack, or the one he appears to have had that day. But there are a LOT of backpacks that are big enough to fit one in yet aren’t so large they cause anyone to think of as unusual. I have two myself; big backpacks, not ARs. I travel a lot, and a back pack gets a lot less scrutiny when walking through a hotel than a gun case. Gun cases are also an invitation to get broken into if a thief sees it in your vehicle. A backpack not as much. BTW, ARs are just so scary. The ones in the pictures tried to kill me 3 times while I was taking those pictures.

Not all backpacks. A 16” barrel upper is right at 24” depending on flash hider. A lot of packs aren’t big enough to hide a 24” anything in. And I guess I should have mentioned that in my earlier post, you do have to take them apart to fit into a pack. I just assumed everyone would automatically understand that. Your post made realize many may not.

It has been clear since July 13th many do not.

I've stayed in a hotel the last couple of gun seasons when I use to camp. You're right about getting looks with a gun case.
